Not all OPs get updated right away. Some might go months without updates even though people have been sharing new content, so even if you looked at the latest updates page, it wouldn't even show up.
That said, people replying to yappers, end up yapping themselves. Best solution for anti-yappers is to just to not say anything so that it's easier to know which members to ignore. For those wondering how to do so, just hover over a user's name:

This will hide all their posts and stop them from showing up as notifications. Especially good for people who feel to urge to say "hero pls" to 50x threads in a row like they're building up a combo.
