Here's the funny thing. I'm on Linux, and scanned the folder with ClamAV, and I get a totally different result than you all.

Remember that name? That's the fucking DRM malware which made it in the news a few weeks ago, because Capcom implemented it in older games like RE:Revelation...
BUT...Like the OP said, you start the game with "app.exe", and not "start.exe".
So I manually deleted start.exe, and guess what people, the game start just fine without it.
I just leavin this info here
