I think most of the cases are legitimate, not completely fake anyway. A lot of the devs probably already have health issues. Some sort of disability enough to give them time to develop games. The hobby devs that have a regular job can't have long to work on their projects at home. I can't think of 5 years where some problem hasn't come up.
