I think the average Lord/Vassal will be A LOT easier to keep happy though than Alaina, as their interests are pretty tied with the kingdom/empire, while Alaina's is directly not. And with what I want to do to the Elves anyway...She's got to go. Plain and Simple.
Bias. Subjectivity.
Alaina is a vassal like any other vassal. She seeks benefits for herself, just like any other vassal.
Alaina's interests are tied specifically to the protagonist. Because she's invested an extraordinary amount of time, resources, and effort in him.
I'm not naive, and I'm not saying she's faithful. But it's a normal relationship. Normal business.
Alaina has given a lot to the protagonist, hoping to receive benefits in return.
You're doing that thing you're accusing me and the other guy of doing here my guy. And showing your own Bias. If you can't at least try to understand how and why Cass is the way she is, and why she did what she did. Then you're just being a hypocrite.
I at least have acknowledged I am biased against Alaina. You should admit the same for Cass my dude.
As you may remember, I wrote earlier: "This is a naive and biased viewpoint (I don't judge)."
That is to say, I do not condemn bias at all.
And I'm biased against Cass, yes.
But I'm positively biased. My main playthrough is the green route. I really like Cass. The only thing I like more than Cass is Elin.
But I won't hide the fact that the white route and the option of not fixing her but breaking her into submission and putting her on a chain is also very appealing.
I find route "fix her" very boring. Fixing her takes away all her charisma.
Either a brash sister on a nearly equal footing, or a chain-whispering bitch.
It's just that right now, in the dialogue, I'm speaking in an accusatory manner toward Cass. But that doesn't mean I don't like her.
And it also doesn't negate the fact that she's a traitor. Personally, I don't care. The fact is, it doesn't paint her in a positive light.
And I'll repeat myself regarding Alaina. She is the protagonist's greatest source of power and utility.
This isn't bias. It's a fact.
The fact is that no one has done more for the protagonist than Alaina.
It's also a fact that her selfish motives don't negate all the benefits she's brought to the protagonist.
What's the point of being offended by the fact that you exist because of elven manipulation, lies, and intrigue?
And the fact is that no other vassal has done more for the protagonist than Alaina.
No one has lied so much, schemed so much, or killed so much for him (indirectly for her political interests, but the point is that her interests are projected through the protagonist, thus "for him").
Alaina was even more present in his life than his own mother.
See? I don't deny my bias (I have a fetish for white-haired elves), but nevertheless, I speak objectively; I don't turn a blind eye to her political interests.
I could say all these words even if I didn’t like Alaina subjectively.
I don't think relying on "nuclear deterrence" is a very effective means for making friends tbh...
I imagine LM is going to give us something a bit more positive for the players that want to go down the middle, like maybe having Elis marry an Elf like his father did. Or some kind of bond/trade in some other way. Not just trying to enforce this thing of "BE AFRAID OF THE OTHER SIDE, ONLY I CAN STOP IT."
Doesn't seem the best idea IMO.
Nobody wants to die, so it might work.
Dude...I am not Elis...I am not a Half-Elf. I am a human called 'Gibbo'.
And I want to see
HUMAN SUPREMACY, and dead Elves
. So I'm gonna use Elis to accomplish that, if I can.
I get it. You're just not getting into character. You're not roleplaying.
I'm going through this game, making choices that seem reasonable to me and that I would make in his place.
But everyone is undoubtedly having fun as best they can.
I find route "fix her" very boring. Fixing her takes away all her charisma. Fixing her looks like castrating her.
Either a brash sister on a nearly equal footing in green route, or a broken chain-whispering bitch in white, which I will make lick my boots.
Ewww,
Alaina fanboyism...When Humanity wins the race war that's coming, you're going on a cross young man/woman/whatever the fuck you are...
You know, I don't choose to genocide the elves not because I lack depravity.
I take the dark and cruel side in almost all games.
I don't choose to genocide elves/humans because I lack rational necessity.
Because we're not allowed to choose who the protagonist will be.
For a half-human, half-elf, it's advantageous to reconcile elves and humans.
Now, if it were possible to choose a pure human or elf protagonist, that would be a different matter...
As it is, it's advantageous and roleplaying.
Because, where is the fun in playing as a genocidal maniac, if you don't at least attempt to justify it in your mind. Also because I usually don't play as villains in games, because I feel bad. So I now need to amp myself up for it.
If you need to justify a cruel act, you're not such a villain.
There are those who kill for logical reasons, and those who kill simply because they enjoy it emotionally.
The latter are undoubtedly worse.
I beat Conrad with the cup because, first and foremost, I subjectively enjoyed the scene and the subsequent dialogue between the protagonist and Cass/Guidon.
Only secondarily do I see a rational necessity in it.
