Really liked the one location scope of the game. Not too many of these.
'12 angry men' is a study for everyone who ever want to write/design anything. It is clear indicator that you can make amazing things even if you have just few characters and one room.
I think rather than force opening the website at the end, give the user a choice. For a number of reasons - e.g. don't want it in history - I prefer games not to automatically open websites.
Next update v0.59 does exactly that.
I'm still surprised that Patreon allows slavery/human trafficking in AVNs given the list of shit already banned.
I think the context matters. When people hear slavery in VN, they think chattel slavery and abuse which was the basic version of slavery. If you look into history, you will quickly see that slavery was mostly a status from which you could recover and it was a form of someone paying their debts.
Only in our modern world debts are something that aside from your assets can't do anything to you. In 'In Her Service' world, that change didn't occur when they arrived into modernity. So if you rack up debt and you can't pay, the court can make you a slave to someone you're indebted to. That someone can make you a servant if you don't have much practical skills, give you a job (if you have skills) or, if you refuse to work, he can send you to mines, which is much harder work and part of their prison system. And that work then can be forced upon you.
The reason I went for slaves instead of servants is that I wanted a tight space for characters to interact in and if the main MC duo were servants instead of slaves then at any point either of them could just quit and go away. In which case it would be hard to write why they are staying despite being clearly unhappy. The slavery part fixes that, even if shit falls on their head; they simply can't go.
In my early story sketches, the main MC pair was just a couple interacting with another couple. But as soon as stuff happened that wasn't liked by either of them, suddenly the rationalization to stay together and further interact seemed really stupid. From my experience, this is usually what happens in swinging games that touch character drama. The stuff just becomes illogical and contrived so they have to come up with weird personalities, reason etc.
I think i should tidy the premise a bit. I think too many people read slavery and expect abuse or slavery game.
edit: Modified premise to better capture the game's heart.
