Looks like in the future the WT will be more robust. Still doesn't fix the shotgun approach to content being added, but at least you'll better know how to do stuff, I guess.

If a particular path that you're pursuing has no more content, typically the "Hints" in the game will have "(WIP)" after it. So has Sarah already been arrested? That will determine where you are and so also decide what the next things to do should be.

I'd recommend downloading the provided walkthrough (linked on the OP) whenever a new release comes out, including Alphas. If you scroll to the end of that, you will always be able to see what's new in the update without spending time to download the actual game. The content for this update is basically just finishing the Shower questline, including additional sleep sex options as a result of completing that. There isn't really anything new beyond that (and the sleep sex options I already mentioned).

Is there a fix or workaround for the bug near the beginning when you're supposed to go to Kate's room to unlock the school? Game gives an error and trying to ignore it makes the game go to the main menu.

Have you tried VileLab's Discord? I know many devs will answer questions about bugs there, and if the dev doesn't, there might be other players who will. I'd help, but I've never seen the bug you describe so wouldn't know what to do to fix it.
Your description gives practically nothing to go off of. When you say, "can't buy the gun from Trevor", do you mean...
- ...you can't find Trevor to ask him for it?
- ...Trevor refuses to sell it? If so, what does he say to the MC?
- ...you get an error and the game crashes? If so, what's the error message?
- ...your MC doesn't have enough money and you need a way to earn cash first?
