That's weird, I can't recreate your problem. It works fine on my end.
I went to Miriam, gave her the mushrooms. After raising her affection, she gives you the quest. If you finish the quest, you should be able to visit the forest.
If you used any way to cheat (besides gold), it must be bugged because of that.

The first thing I liked about this game was that the story tries to avoid cliches like MC being confused af like where the hell am I? who are these people? why they act like this? Is this a theme park or something? and trying to fill all of the first episode resolving the confusion of the MC with unfunny moments to prolong the story.
MC knows his situation and he tries to blend in as fast as he can. so kudos to the devs.

You are 100% correct! I played and completed the content for both paths for the initial release, so was looking forward to the new release, but unfortunately the saves for them don't work and had to start from the beginning again. The grind is painful and the return for activity is way too low, particularly battles. Hopefully the dev will improve the economics and work out the save issue before the next update.
While the mini game for battles can be fun, it is extremely time consuming for relatively low return, so I'd suggest having an option to skip it and just get the credit.

Is there a faster way to advance Beatrice? I cant find phoenix feathers in the forest to say my life (got one out of 20 attempts) and raising her to 5, 0.1 at a time is going to take a really long time

This game looks really good and I hope we will get more content soon 
My only problem with this game is maybe that without cheats it's a little to grindy. Also intimnancy scenes could look better (especially handjob and blowjob scenes).

Sorry this took longer than it should. Forgot to check the forum for a couple of days.
A few thoughts on game economy and balance.
Personally, gold is not the only thing slowing down progression, but it is a huge factor. The number of clicks to get from one activity to another is more than needed and the amount you pay compared to how much things cost is off balance as well.
A few examples and suggested improvements:
It takes 5 clicks to just sleep, when you could do it in one by consolidating the text to one page.
Payday for a week in path 2 is only 15 gold, which should probably be at least 150 gold.
Battles take a full day worth of action points and a lot of clicks to complete, it would be nice to have an option to skip the mini game and just get a reward, perhaps a higher reward for actually taking the extra time to do the mini game.
Having to pay gold for memories, which should just be unlocked once quests are completed and not cost gold at all.

Particularly when you click the bed icon, and it says "you are too tired." Dude that's the point, I'm trying to go to bed.
Clicking the bed icon might as well just take you directly to "it is a new day..." or at most, have a confirm/cancel button for it.

Suggestion ... it would be nice to have a chart of what the affection gain is for each item for each girl.
I thought Beatrice was getting an affection boost whenever somebody purchased an item. It would probably make sense in both paths instead of making us buy something from somebody just to gift it back. The amount of affection gain should be based on the total amount of money spent.
For flowers, earrings, gold ring:
Lenora - 0.1, 0.2, 0.4
Miriam, Isabella, Amelia - 0.3, 0.6, 1.0
Amina - 0.15, 0.4, 0.6
Elowen - 0.15, 0.1, 0.1
Evelyn - 0.2, 0.3, 0.5
I can't give anything to Faye or Beatrice yet... incidentally, I noticed that when you give anything to Sister Evelyn, you don't get a popup telling you how much effect it had. I had to leave, check stats, then go back again each time.
Now whether these numbers stay constant throguh the game, I have yet to find out, of course...
