Happy Friday! (Or Saturday over here)

It's been a crazy week once again, but at least it's been productive despite all the distractions.

On the personal side for this week, I've had some positive developments that I'd love to share soon. I also had to cancel one of my afternoons to rush to the doctor and then the Hospital, but all worked out. We're also redoing our garden. It's time. It used to be so lush and green and colourful (I'm sure there are some photos on the Discord), but after the year we've had, the garden hadn't been a priority, and it kinda got away from us. We pulled everything out a few weeks ago, and a lovely gentleman is busy helping us make some changes, which should be done later today, weather permitting. I'm really looking forward to sitting outside again.

Infinite Stars. Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll. You helped reassure me that my thinking was correct. From this month, going forward, we're going to start pushing for monthly(ish) smaller releases. It might be a small slice of life scene or two, an intimate scene or two, or something similar.

I did mention it's been a productive week despite all the distractions, and I've pulled up some of the content that has been on the shelf in various states of 'done'. It needs a bit more polish, but we'll have an update somewhere this month, with either an intimate scene with Khalil (a late-night booty call to his dorm) or a slice-of-life intrigue side story that will unlock the newest and probably final personality stat, measuring your morality.

A quick side note, the co-creation character project is still ramping up, and we're busy wrapping up the brief template that will be sent out for everyone who is chosen to participate.

Now that we've established that we'll focus on more regular, smaller content being added, keep your eyes peeled for the poll about what kind of content you want to see the most of. (Intimate scenes vs serious stuff vs cutesey downtime scenes, etc) We'll still include a healthy variety, but it's good to know which ones are favoured by all of you.

For now, we need to know which scene you would like us to focus on for this month's release.

Have a fantastic rest of your weekend. I've got some errands to run today and tomorrow, but I'll be keeping a close eye on the poll so I can focus my free time on the one you want most.

There's a dormant hum beneath the ice on Europa. You can't hear it with instruments, but you can feel it. It's a pressure that moves through the bone instead of the air. It's faint, almost like a pulse, and it's coming from something buried beneath the ice.

We still don't have a name for it. We refer to it as the heartbeat when we have to call it something. It's not stone, although it does feel like stone at first. Smooth to the touch, but warm, despite being deep beneath the ice. The closer you get to the central ridge, the softer the stone-like surface becomes, until your suit gloves start to leave indents, a millimetre or two deep, before it smooths out again, like a muscle tightening.

The initial scans made no sense. Structurally, it's organic, but its density is far higher than anything possible to have been formed on Europa. We've only mapped a fraction of it so far. Enormous, repeating loops, each three times the size of a TPA Battleship, threaded together like veins in a body. If the entire thing continues deeper into the crust, which the readings suggest, it could extend hundreds of kilometres.

We thought it might be a crashed vessel at first. There is evidence of an impact crater, but the structure looks grown, rooted into the rock and ice, as if it had always been there.

Some of my colleagues think it's a fossilised organism, while others make arguments that it must be a machine. I'm starting to believe it's both, a bridge between biology and engineering. Something that built itself from the materials available, but that still doesn't explain the density of the structure! It's driving me mad! And no one can agree on what the purpose could be. A seed of some sort? A grave? A geologic cancerous moon tumour?

We're not the first to find one of these heartbeats, either. After transmitting our scans, Lunar Command reached out asking that we treat our findings with the H1 protocol, not to be shared with the Concordat. Any additional data collected could only be processed or stored on air-gapped terminals. We weren't told much more, other than 'We don't want to trigger another Khatsey incident.'

There's an unease in the camp now. We all know what happened to the first explorers who dug into the ice. We all remember the Etoilla Lentaesine outbreak. The camp is filled with hushed whispers that maybe the heartbeat isn't dormant at all. Maybe it's waiting for something. A signal or a command of some sort to revive whatever it is.

I've instructed all personnel to stay in the camp. No one is allowed into the ice tunnels until we know more. If this thing triggers a second outbreak, Lunar Command won't hesitate to seal this place, with all of us still in it, under the ice.

Happy Friday!

Production has been ramping up nicely, and I feel like I'm settling back into my old productive routine! If all goes well, we might have the new playable intrigue scene ready by next week this time. If we miss that date, it will definitely be ready before the end of the month.

You might have seen the lore post on [redacted],* which leads us to you and your crew travelling the galaxy. (It's not the smoothest transition, but I've been writing for hours, so work with me.) The first gate that you'll be able to travel to on the current galaxy map will lead to Sol, where it all started. It's also a place that I've been world-building for several years, so I'm quite excited to share all of that with you. (To manage expectations, this is still a while off, and your Mah'Abeu will have to resolve the current crisis first. (Or maybe not? Maybe we'll allow your Mah'Abeu to turn tail and run home, consequences be damned.)) I'll start sharing more lore entries and dev insights about what's been happening back at home soon. The first of these is the design concepts for Sol fashion, specifically Lunar fashion. (Keep an eye out for our Mars and Earth fashion posts that will arrive a little later.)

*Fun lore tidbit, the H1 protocol is also referred to as the "(H)umans (1)st" protocol, used when something is low-key classified and not meant to be shared freely with other species for various reasons. Another example is the diplomatic brief on how to interact with the Cephilusk. It doesn't contain anything secret, but freely sharing the diplomatic brief could cause diplomatic friction between Humans and Cephilusk.

Most of our designations, number sequences, names and Mushkaraq words in the game aren't just pulled from a hat. They have an actual meaning behind them!

Happy Friday. Happy Friday indeed.

As promised, after getting your feedback we will be releasing more side bits of content on a roughly monthly basis while we keep polishing the main story in the background.

The first piece of that content is now available to patrons. It is the start of an intrigue focused side quest, and since it is not adult in nature it will be available to everyone when we drop the next main story update, maybe sooner if schedule allows.

We also spent quite a bit of time making all of the menus self voicing compatible, which means that vision impaired players can now enjoy the game more easily. If you use RenPy's self voicing feature, the new build should play nicely with it.

This update also includes three new patron portraits to choose from, along with a bunch of other small tweaks and fixes.

Oh, and the poll about the next Pinup, Hehlumnabia won out, so here she is!

Still on the horizon:

The next batch of Episode 4 content. (Almost done. ETA possibly later next month, or very early next year, depending on if we implement the 'dungeon crawl' element or not, and whether we include the outfit system or not.)

Khalil's intimate scene, Matthias semi-intimate scene, Tabitha intimate scene.

The outfit system, which will let you change the default outfit for all crew members.

Ambient audio rework. We want to replace the MedSec ambience with something less annoying, among other areas.

The new character drive. Priorities shifted to get this build out, but Tae is still itching to get started on the new characters.

It's been a productive week for Infinite Stars!

I've been writing myself into a dizzy spell (although it might also be the flu, which is finally starting to feel like it's over!)
Tae sent the first concept art for the new artwork needed to continue Episode 4, and it's looking good!

Mishyy (our fabulous intern who has been silently helping in the background over the last year) has been upskilled to code the expressions.
And a bunch of other stuff.

If you are a fellow indie dev in need of character assets, we currently have a Black Friday sale on all of our older assets , but the real deal is the on our character assets.

Every free moment we had this week (and next week) will go towards prepping for rAge. , we have two free tickets up for grabs! All you need to do is reach out before Sunday to tell me you are interested, and you'll be entered into the draw. (We'll also have some really cool Infinite Stars crew cosplaying as Star Wars character stickers available!)
