Been playing IA2, only 0.2 it looks like, and I have to say that this has real potential. For an early alpha its pretty good. Heck, it is actually playable, which I don't normally expect for a game in that stage!
Man, if I could have got my homework done just be clicking a few buttons two or three times a week, I would have done a lot better in school!
I'm not thrilled by the choice of 3D art, but I understand why they did it, the only thing I could recommend is that maybe try to make the 3D art a bit better, more small details and individualization would be nice, the coach in particular needs improvement. The teacher is probably the best of the three adults, and young Alex is pretty well done as well.
Also, I'd suggest reducing the size of the younger characters' heads, just a little bit. They seem disproportionately large and look odd. The adults seem fine. I'd also recommend increase the kids height just a smidge, especially if the heads get resized.
Height seems to be very inconsistent in the game; in the opening screen their heights seem pretty close to where they should be (based on the adults with the coach probably close to 6 feet, mom just a few inches shorter and teacher in the mid to high 5 foot range, the kids are then in the mid to high 4 foot range). But then on his bed the MC seems tiny, like he's maybe 3 feet tall! Same again when the teacher and MC are dancing, he looks like he barely comes up to her waist which would again make him about 3 feet tall! If nothing else you really need to aim for internal consistency.
I really, *really* like Alex. I was "is this a boy or a girl?" until the uniform discussion came up, and then it was "Oh! Okay, a tom boy! Cool." The scenes with her cover the innocent experimentation and discovery aspect that the MC and Sam did in the first game, but seem more realistic in that the characters aren't quite as hopelessly naive, but more appropriately just young and inexperienced in the age of the internet.
The time between the scenes *really* needs improvement. There is a HUGE amount of just repetitive clicking while you work up your relationship levels, which is really kinda dull. At least the minigames in the first game broke things up (and I found all of them except Pong and the Slide Puzzle to be super easy). I'm hoping something will be done to change this up in the future, whether mini-games, different dialog to read as you get better at skills, or something.
Nate the Great? Snerk!
"All characters depicted in game are 18+" I smirk when I see that, yeah... right.
So anyway, that's my two cents. Looking forward to more of this game.
