The "That may be a problem" that Ethan says to Zach is the fact that she knows what a dick he is, so he couldn't do his usual nice guy routine with her. He doesn't say that when not on the Val path as she doesn't know him.
The reason why the MC can't get in contact with Val, is because she dropped her phone likely breaking it when Ethan bumped into her. Plus it was on the street in broad daylight.
I put as much faith in this supposed cliffhanger as I do in the "He's my dad..." one or the Erynn is dead behind a dumpster one.
Easy way to get rid of ethan have him sit on the railing at the beach and have a ball hit him in the head and he falls to his death. No one to blame

No way a guy can murder a girl midtown in the middle of the day and be sitting at a club 2 days later, we already talk about how silly things are on the blackmail plot... this would be beyond stupid.
His reaction is still very "blasé" to Val being mentioned...
Had he actually killed someone, he'd need to be at a clandestine airport on the way to a no deportation country.
Also everyone in town would be talking about this, instead of Emily and Melissa talking about Emily's day with John, the first thing we would hear as we get back would be "one of your classmates has been murdered".
No happy day at the Monroes either.
And yes the reason she isn't answering calls is obvious, it's right there on the render.
At this point i think even hospitalization might be too much for the circumstances, people like Adriana and Layla would have to know if something actually dangerous happened.

As a person who supports Nyx on patreon, this update kinda sucked, in the end, the story didn't advance that much:
1. Why make 2 scenes that no one wanted with that ugly girl (Mira)?
2. I like Nikki and her scenes in general, but at the same time, I know Nyx has to do the same scenes with Cara which takes time, and the story doesn't advance that much when they are involved in the story.
3. Why add more girls? They are more then enough!!!
4. Now probably Lakeyn will take screen time from the other girls.
5. Because of the additional girls, It feels like she doesn't have a clear idea about the future of the game. Don't drag the game, finish the story and then make Intertwined 2 where the dude goes to college or something. You can even set it a few years in the future.
In the end, it was a big update, but because of the first 2 reasons it didn't feel that big, now we have to wait another 6 months probably.
