After an annoying literature period with Zane and the MC insane with jealousy at the girls swooning over Zane, he thinks Erynn as his teacher will be better.
Turns out, no.
The MC goes insane with jealousy as his male (and some female) classmates salivate over Erynn.
Here, Zane swears to destroy the MC so he can take Nikki from him.
(ATTENTION NYX!) I hope Nyx can give us some kind of telenovela parody dream sequence with Melissa, John, Emily and Erynn.Ohhhh. Now that's some good telenovela drama I could just see being considered and showing up.
The Mira torpedoing our date scene's probably going to have those sudden zoom in close ups
Seeing as the MC can be so ridiculously over-the-top childish at times, maybe Zane will challenge MC to a surfing competition. And in typical Val-date fashion, he'll incessantly try to cheat?

I don't think Zane is going to be an antagonist on any route.
Erynn has been there, done that.
He has no interest in Val.
Nikki is too deep into MC and her cheating on him after MC helped her with her cheating ex, I don't see it.

Our MC will get Nikki to distract Zane with her bikini body (like Iris did in the volleyball match). Zane will get his only wipeout. Zane gets pissed like Erynn, and crushes every wave after that while our MC drowns in his wake.
SIDE NOTE: Yeah. Our MC can be an annoying cheat. That's his narcissism taking out his issues on everyone else.

Maybe he won't be a true rival but his presence alone is enough to make the MC jealous.
And perhaps end up with one of the girls you don't chose(this tends to get players riled up, but personally i have no problems with it).

Sorry I got that backwards... MC stupidly challenges Zane to a surfing competition because his need to "win" Erynn. Again down to the narcissism you refer to. I really hope it doesn't happen, but then again I'm not a huge fan of MC's incessant need to perceive himself as a winner at any cost.
Erynn has never hidden the fact she's really into the MC. Yeah she does clam up with physical intimacy at first, but everyone can see the conflict of something holding her back. Something that must go beyond the simple Ethan blackmail. If the MC stays at her in her apartment, it becomes very clear that she wants to be with him. So the need to be chest-puffing and jealous would just be irritating to me.
All of this talk about Zane made the thought pop into my head:
What if Zane ends up being a gigabro, like Zach should have been? I don't think it would be very good writing, but it would almost be worth it just for the wailing and gnashing of teeth it would cause here.

Couldn't see a teacher and student going around like a couple of Don Juans being too well received by the faculty.
Yeah. New best friend, ally in the fight against Ethan and whoever might show up as other antagonists, maybe a mentor or just another person to help Erynn out of her dilemma.
I agree with you, though; I don't really think it's likely to happen. John already fills a lot of that role, plus being a mentor and a little bit of a father figure besides. And I agree that a close friendship between teacher and student would not be very socially acceptable.
It sure would be funny, though.
Zane helping against Ethan does make sense.
And maybe not buddies, but just a good guy who upon seeing you with Erynn wishes you both the best and doesn't try to create any intrigue.
His morality is still up in the air, he's respectful towards Val and as far as we know haven't been trying to fuck the school girls.
But willing to move in on a dude's GF...
For what it's worth his sister likes him.
