Progress is still going steadily, but there are a few things I want to talk about.
First, the reason why there weren't any preview pictures. Last week, like many countries in Europe, we had a heat wave, and it was incredibly hot. 40+ degrees where I live. I tried to render, but the PCU was reaching temperatures that I was uncomfortable with. I render on my GPU, but it still switches to the PCU sometimes, and it reached over 90 degrees those days. Which is too high if it keeps going for a longer period. I have plenty of cooling but those days, it didn't help.
To be safe, I didn't render those days. I created the scenes though, and I will render them when I go on vacation, so I'll get those days back then. I also did some coding those days, so all the scenes I have created so far are already coded, which is a plus.
Now something else. Someone sent me a Let's Play of Intertwined, which I watched. It was really nice to see how someone plays the game. It also showed me how many hints someone can miss. I already simplified the story and put in many hints, but maybe it's still not enough? The biggest issue that I saw, though, was the "animations". I know that many have complained about them being "laggy", low fps, and so on, but every time I tested the game, they run very smooth for me. I compared them to other games, and it felt the same. For me at least. But now seeing how it plays on someone else's PC, it's worse than I thought. So, I'm gonna change it. First, I'm going to convert all the renders to video files and increase the frame rate. I used photoshop before, but it has always been a hassle, especially if you want to change the speed of some frames. I found a new program, though, which does exactly what I want it to do. I tested it and the, real animations this time, look great, and I hope it will be the same for everyone else. So all of the animations will be converted to video files. That also comes with another benefit. The size of the game will go down, I don't know by how much yet, but I know once all the animations are converted. So the overall render count for each episode and future episodes will go down. By quite a bit actually. That doesn't mean I'm doing less renders now, I still render every frame, so I can photoshop them with the same lighting as the scene and then convert them to a video file with the speed I want them to be. You just won't see them anymore. And changing the code won't take up too much time. I probably do the conversion during my vacation since that's something I can do on my laptop, together with coding and script writing.
That's it for now. If there will be more changes, I'll let you know. For now, it's back to 'normal' business until my vacation starts.
Oh and if someone has made a let's play of Intertwined, feel free to send me the link, I'd love to watch them.
