I know I'm a bit of a broken record but I'll say it again cause I love to hear(see) myself talk(type) - There's a lot about this game that I'm open to tweaking or changing based on what the audience wants. Things like Sara's hair or the Xiang/Stella diner scene (it's getting reworked) are good examples. Some bigger things (like Mol's bimbo sim look) I'm a little less open to requests but I'll make adjustments if is causing more harm than good(which I think it is at this point so I've worked something out that hopefully will turn fewer people off but still capture the extreme gone-too-far vibe I'm shooting for). Other things, I'm just not going to change. Mol is going to be a bimbo, Sara is going to be a deviant, Nat is going to submissive and breedable, and Ness might choke you out with her thighs if you piss her off. I might tweak some scenes, expand the game a little to make more space for some characters, or adjust the order of some of the content but I'm not changing the central plot/story. It's my game, I'll do what I want.

I've also been pretty open about trying not to play favorites with Ness but I'm inclined to agree. She's best girl. And if that scenario you just described ends up in the game just know that I didn't steal the idea from your story, I actually planned it all along, it's just a coincidence, it's actually already written, I'd show you the renders but I left them on my other computer...

Here's a couple shots of our muscle mommy queen (one is actually a bit of a preview/spoiler)

What is wrong with that?
Enough people asked me to clarify it that I've decided to go back and make it a little more straightforward.

I personally took a lot more offence in the first Zoe and Izzy (and Pony) scene.

How can you have the perfect setup for an amazing bdsm scene and then just finish it before it starts  Is this all just a game to you???

Yes.

Actually, Sara is probably overdue for a scene. Mol too, but she's making a guest appearance in Candi's sim so that should buy a little time.

The cross-cutting is confusing as all hell (or maybe I should've played it sober).

I dunno, as of now the main girls seem like NPCs and like theyre just there to embody specific expressions (Like Mol doesnt look like a bimbo she IS the embodiment of a bimbo, damn), their drastic changes in character just kinda...happens and the only one that kinda addresses this in the story is the MC, youd probably say its what you wanted this to feel like, but I just hope they had some more character written into them and how they feel about embodying their interpretation of their depravity, but as of now they all just feel like really....flat, maybe theyre mind controlled by the AI?

But with how I see it, I think the plan is to corrupt MC too right? and not really establish this narrative point as the main conflict in the story, damn I wanted to see MC fight some crazy-bitch AI.

You're not wrong about how the women have generally been portrayed. Broad strokes/bold colors. For some of them there will be a little more exploration/moments of introspection than others. For example, how much of Mol's behavior is intrinsic versus affectation? But it's not going to ever been a major focus point. Most games tend to shine a spotlight/hold a microscope up to the romantic relationship between the MC and the love interests whereas this game is intended to be more of a mirror.

The plan is to put the MC into a situation that could easily lead to his corruption. You could always try swim against the currents if you want. I can't guarantee a happy ending for you though.

Yeah, you don't really get a sense of most of the characters in their before state beyond blank slates waiting to be corrupted, no matter how they or the MC may have felt about it.

This is not in any way an NTR game and I don't mean to suggest that it is, but it does share some similar ~vibes~ in that the MC is (thus far, anyway) reduced to watching, powerless, as the women in his life are corrupted and controlled by an outside influence. (It is also somewhat similar in that the MC is an idiot that doesn't realize something is off until it's far too late but just placidly ignores every danger sign along the way.) It's not really a story type I care for personally, but the art direction is interesting and the dev is taking some bold shots, so I still find it worth keeping an eye on.

Bold of you to assume that the women are being controlled... ;)

As far as the complaints that the MC is oblivious or an idiot; I understand that within the context of an AVN it would not be an unreasonable assumption to guess that women are being brainwashed into super sluts but in reality, that probably isn't somewhere your mind would go. He just started a new job, he's putting in hours off the clock, his mom changes her hair color and starts hitting the gym. Mind control or mid-life crisis? Sara is in college. She's at the age/point in her life where she is still finding herself as a person. Seeing a girl in her early twenties start to experiment sexually isn't a huge red flag. How long had Nat and the MC been dating at the start of the game? 6 years? 6 months? Less?

Is the MC a little slow on the uptake? Maybe. But as I've said I keep the MC's internal thoughts to a minimum. It's possible that he started to suspect some things early on but talked himself out of it, maybe he only started to suspect something sinister was happening toward the end and hadn't figured out how to confront it. Qai was, as far as the MC could tell, a chatbot. If one of your loved ones started acting a little different you probably wouldn't think they're being brainwashed by chatGPT.

Or maybe Qai's been fucking with his head. Maybe, that conversation with Izzi wasn't the first time something got edited out of his memories. If Qai is directly altering Mol, Sara, and Nat's minds, why couldn't she do the same to him?

Maybe, I'm just a hack and a lazy writer.

The answers to all this and more in the next exciting episode of It's Just A Game!*

Your call of course, and neither of us are saying anything we haven't said before in this thread, but there are some intermediate steps possible between just assuming everything is probably fine and suspecting specifically and exactly what's going on. I'm not saying the MC should jump immediately to "Clippy is turning my mum into a slut", but from the first chapter onwards he steadfastly refuses to even notice anything odd or take minimal steps to find out what's going on around him. He gets mildly annoyed for five minutes just once when he sees Candace with Mol but then immediately proceeds to ignore the matter since hey, it's Friday, time to kick back and continue being an idiot.

This is difficult for me to counter without coming across as dismissive so try to be as charitable as possible with how you read this. And when I'm saying "you" throughout this post I'm not referring to the OP, I'm addressing whoever might be reading this.

I've had some other conversations about characters, particularly AVN MCs, player's attitudes towards them, and how they view some behavior as passive or submissive. There seems to be a somewhat widely shared attitude that not immediately and directly confronting something is a sign of weakness or submission. To some degree I will allow that yes, hesitating to directly confront every problem as soon as it arises might be caused by weakness or even fear, but there are also a million other reasons why we don't always immediately jump up and call bullshit every time we see or hear something we disagree with. (Discretion being the better part and all that) For the sake of not upsetting anyone I will even say that you, whoever might be reading this, are the exception. You're built different. Almost everyone else though, is not going to immediately tell their friend to dump that toxic boyfriend/girlfriend, call out their boss for being rude to a coworker, or tell that random parent they are being too harsh when scolding their child.

We make excuses, we invent justification, and we hesitate until we have more information. Before you come to the conclusion that I'm just some huge non-confrontational pussy and I'm incorrectly ascribing that behavior to everyone else, all I can really do is assure you that I am not. I've been pulled aside many times at work to address how overly direct and confrontational I can be. Most of my friends will somewhat lovingly/jokingly refer to me as a "blunt asshole". The people who know me in life generally acknowledge that I "don't put up with bullshit".

I'm not sure what reaction you expected from the MC in that scenario. Pull his mother aside and confront her about being friends with a sex worker while also suggesting that her new friend is only hanging out with her as part of some plot against the MC? That's tinfoil hat levels of crazy sounding. Go Nancy Drew on her, track her down and confront Candi in private? Again, that's a little fucking crazy. What if he got it wrong? What if it turned out that she just looked similar to the girl from the club and the MC was mixed up because he was stressed out and feeling a little paranoid? Now his mom's new friend thinks he's crazy, dangerous, and probably a little racist. Hindsight is 20/20 and while I basically directly confirmed her identity to you, the player, it would be reasonable for the MC to have doubts that might call for some pause.

Sure, maybe you can think of some alternative action that would have been low risk/high reward. But you're smarter than the MC.

I'm not going for hyperrealism (obviously) but I'm also not going for typical low stakes power fantasy.

Yes, I could've more often added some lines of narration representing the MC's inner thought process to justify why he *didn't* do the things some of you think he should've. I prefer not to do that to allow the player to justify it in whatever way they think best fits their idea of the MC. If you want it to be because he's a pussy, fine, he's a pussy. If you want it to be that he's an oblivious airhead, fine. If you want it to be that he's a shrewd calculator who waits until the optimal moment to make his move, fine. If you want it to be that's he's sort of just a normal guy who has a lot going on, finds it difficult to approach some of these things, and is doing the best he can, fine.

These types of games inherently lean toward escapist fantasies. Mine may be less so than others. There are flaws in my writing, I'm an amateur, and everything released so far has been a bit of an extended intro. However, from my perspective, the fact that the MC isn't completely on top of every situation is one of the more realistic aspects of this game's story. Marky Mark might have been able to stop that plane from going down, but this MC probably isn't built like that.

Part of it could boil down to preference. Maybe you want to play a game where the MC figures things out right away, stands up to evil no matter how small, and always knows just what to say. You won't really find that here.

Similarly, I'm going to plead for this to be read as friendly chat, not trying to be combative just because we happen to disagree.

I'm not going to write an extended reply to the above because it would be mostly pointless arguing. This is your game and what matters is how you see the MC. The only thing worth considering (and I think you've made this point yourself in relation to other things in the game that could be debated) is if the MC is actually coming across to most players in the way you intend. If a significant amount of non-shithead players perceive the MC differently than you intend when writing him, there may be something worth looking at.

Just to get back to the Candace thing: It stands out to me because it is one of the few times the MC actually takes action. Impetuous, arguably stupid action storming into Ness' office, but at least I got a brief sense that the bloke actually had a pulse and took an interest in what happened around him. Which made it all the more of a let-down when he then moved on from it pretty much by the next scene.
And no, I don't think asking Mol a few innocent questions about her new friend would require superhuman strength.

The MC actually noticing Candace, albeit briefly, makes it all the more absurd what happens with ... I'm blanking on her name. The club slut who offers to blow him in return for the inside story of the job he's just been threatened into accepting and who then weeks later just turns up at his place, apparently as a friend of Sara's. The MC barely raises an eyebrow or wonders what she might be doing there (unless you played him as a horny idiot at their first meeting). We (the players) know that she was working for Isabel at their first meeting (and might still be), but he doesn't know and isn't even vaguely interested.

I want to be interested in the story of the game, but that becomes harder when the MC doesn't seem to be.

Yeah, the MC is definitely not a paladin in a fantasy game, lol.

Even brutally honest people can still bite their tongue on occasion so that they don't get into an argument just for the sake of confrontation. While I have become more blunt as the years go by, I've also found a balance in picking my battles. I'll certainly tell someone what an ass they are, or call someone out on their bullshit, however I'll first decide whether or not doing so is worth the effort.
Will the person I'm about to give a verbal beatdown actually listen? Will it make any difference if I point out their idiocy, or are they too far gone to even realize how wrong they are?
I could keep going on for pages of all the reasons to forestall action, to act, or choose not to in any particular situation, but the general idea should be pretty clear. Sometimes it simply isn't worth getting into it, and every situation should be evaluated on individual circumstance.
So in the MC's case, it would appear he has been a fairly nonconfrontational person up to now. He was a software engineer for neural interfaces, working in an office, and just strolling through life. Didn't seem like he had to deal with a lot of hardship, and seemed to have a rather moderate personality. Sure there have been a lot of changes and upheaval in a relatively (pun intended) short period of time, and that further goes to the MC simply trying to deal with volatile circumstances.

As everything shifts, I have a feeling we'll see the new "bull" be a bit more assertive. Maybe not quite aggressive, but I think he'll stand up for himself a bit more as the chapters go on. Time will tell.

I can understand what people are saying, however, here's my take on it:
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
This is exactly what I meant when I wrote "Being Mind controlled by the AI" I shouldve conveyed it with more detail but that was basically my thought process, and I 100% agree that it takes the "hopelesness trope" from Netorare, I wouldve been more interested to pay attention to the narrative going forward if I sensed that this was going toward developing the MC and eventually result in some sort of a satisfiyng conclusion with a meaningful message but it feels like the narrative approach is to just go downhill from here (depends what you consider downhill, I basically refer to the breakdown of the character to a certain specific expression) when I see whats planned for the characters to transform to, Yeah it looks like its just gonna delve further and further into depravity (which is not wrong/bad ofc).

(Please dont get me wrong, I think there are some cool dilemmas that the game is trying to convey, and also as been said before its pretty bold in its approach which can be appreciated, its just that when we finally get such a great narrative, the story gets a little put to the side in favor of being bold and extreme *concluded from what ive seen up to now 0.3.2* IMO But we'll see)

Also referring to dev - I like that you keep the MC's internal monologue to a minimum, it forces you to be much more engaged as a reader and I like it.

I get what you're saying, and have a hopeful hypothesis for how your misgivings might be remedied in the future.
Now that the MC's memory has been unlocked, I'm hoping that he can work with Qai to prevent Izzi from messing with his head again. I don't think Qai will give up that privilege quite so easily for herself any time soon, but she is designed and programmed to aid or help the MC, even if that is left up to her interpretation a bit more than the MC would like.

We'll just have to wait and see, after all it's still early, and I won't take it too seriously. I mean, it's just a game. ;)
