Think of Jack-o-Nine-Tails as a the Dark Souls of slave management games. We can of course help you, but trial and error makes the whole fun of it. :)

Ask yourself this question "if I had a slave, wouldn't she try to run away if I behave like I did?", delve deep into human psychology and forget about the game variables. Immerse yourself into the lore, and become the best slaver there is ;)

You can find a mostly up to date wiki by simple google search

It's not exactly complete, but it can be quite helpful to get started.

As for running away, she probably did that because she thinks you are a horrible person. You can prevent her getting away by fitting her with a collar (Steel Rose in necropolis) and a brand tat (Patterns of Uncle Bo in outcasts district)

Never mind, at least I have a screeny of this one.

Alright, I know where this comes from ;) It's nothing wrong with Gloria, the problem is the "_street" backgrounds image sizes. I'll fix it for Beta version 3. You can even do it simply by resizing "serpi_street" in 800x600 in content/pic/bg. Same for Taurus_street, necropolis_street, kamira_street.

I wish I could find the variable in the code, in order to have two pictures show, a "taurus_street_large" when going to the neighborhood, and "taurus_street" when speeking to a potential buyer.

Is the wiki really up-to-date? From what I remember it was missing a lot of "new" information in regards to Crushboss' version as well as Red's.

Hi again :) A slave running away could be due to a lot of different variables. You should click on your slaves' portrait then go to "Aura" and "Cast Auspex". You'll get a TON of useful information. Most relevant to running away is "Fear" and "Rebellion". In order to stop a slave from running away, as someone said, you could buy a collar from the Steel Rose in the Necropolis. A tattoo is mandatory, however, and you can get one in three different ways. Brand her with a hot iron (requires you to rent a dungeon, and is also the "worst" choice imo), go to Uncle Bo in the Outcast Quarter and have him literally tattoo a brand on to her, which is a good option. The best option is only available if you have max(?) magic, and it's simply a magic seal.

I know I asked if the wiki is up-to-date, but you might want to take a look because a lot of the core mechanics are explained. This is a game that is awesome, but has a steep learning curve. Kind of like Rimworld, or King of Dragon Pass, or Dark Souls. Or any game that's got a steep learning curve and is awesome.

If you need any more tips feel free to @ Me :)

Nice, thank you for the advice.
I can't figure out why the cooking is still so bad, always F, eventhough it is already skilled, do I have to upgrade the kitchen for that?
And can I load games? I only found the auto save option, but no option for loading anything.
If you're cooking for yourself, I recommend buying the "Livery" clothing for 10 sparks from the clothing store in White Town. Wearing them will give you a +1 boost to your Housekeeping skill (for Cooking and Cleaning) so you can at least do the basics yourself at the cost of a (stacking?) mood penalty for not having a slave/assistant do it. Getting Isabelle from the Slums and taking her in as an assistant makes cooking/cleaning a non-issue, otherwise, you will have to do it yourself until you can train an obedient slave with a decent Housekeeping skill.

Saving/Loading can be found at the top.

This game was initially designed to be very difficult to approach, but very satisfying when you finally figure out the mechanics and learn how to get past all the quirks of early game.

As for your slaves running away, don't worry, that's perfectly normal and indicative of a slave with a very high Rebellious stat found by inspecting her Aura using the "Auspex" magic spell (for 2 sparks), clicking on your slave's avatar, and going to the Aura tab - if her Aura is stronger than yours (dictated by the Magic skill), you won't get a good reading.

I can't say for sure, but I think the Fear and Despair stats under Aura also contribute to a slave running away, and they may even be independently-checked (at least, that's how I would program it myself). I haven't looked at this part of the code myself, but keeping those stats in check quickly remedy the whole "running away" issue, although I think I have had at one point a slave run away with everything in the blue & green except a single sharp thorn of rebellion.

You can prevent them from running away by putting a Brand on them (slaves from the Slavers' Guild automatically come with a Guild Brand so you don't need to do anything), either magically (the Adverto Servili spell for 25(?) sparks) or by going to Patterns of Uncle Bo in the Outcasts.

When branded, they will still try to run away, but will be captured and returned to you at the expense of your mood(?), brand reputation(?), and the fact that she will need to be punished pretty severely which won't help your slave's mood at all. Hey, it's better than completely losing her, especially if she has Exquisite beauty.

Hi qwertyu12359, I've found those variables! Just resize those images, and add _small, or _rental like I did. Example: content/pic/bg/serpis_street_rental.png

Then, on the .qsp file, #place_base (inside the database folder):
Code:
line 14 - $bg['kamira_street_rental'] = 'kamira_street'
line 15 - $bg['necropolis_street_rental'] = 'necropolis_street'
line 16 - $bg['taurus_street_rental'] = 'taurus_street'
line 17 - $bg['serpis_street_rental'] = 'serpis_street'
Change them like the resized images:
Code:
line 14 - $bg['kamira_street_rental'] = 'kamira_street_rental'
line 15 - $bg['necropolis_street_rental'] = 'necropolis_street_rental'
line 16 - $bg['taurus_street_rental'] = 'taurus_street_rental'
line 17 - $bg['serpis_street_rental'] = 'serpis_street_rental'
Now, on the #interaction_city (inside the interface folder):
Code:
line 1560 - $place = 'necropolis_street'
line 1577 - $place = 'taurus_street'
line 1594 - $place = 'serpis_street'
line 1611 - $place = 'kamira_street'
Change them again like the resized images:
Code:
line 1560 - $place = 'necropolis_street_rental'
line 1577 - $place = 'taurus_street_rental'
line 1594 - $place = 'serpis_street_rental'
line 1611 - $place = 'kamira_street_rental'
On a side note, the kamira image is already at 800x600, I had to resize the original, with some loss on quality of course... This way you can have the images on both resolutions!

Edit: Thanks! Found that image, but it's named karmira_streets.png!

Thank you very much. I will add the code for version 3 :)

By the way, there is a kamira_streets (woops, added an "s"). It was supposed to replace the kamira_street. It's a big picture, so you can take that one and resize it without quality loss ;)

Are fiends broken?

Seems like no matter how often my assistant milks my fiend, the fiend is never sated and the fiend's cum diet for my slave is always unavailable, citing that I don't have any fiend's cum. Yes, the slave has a fiend tattoo.

I've read through the last dozen or so pages of this thread, along with the change log, and didn't catch anything related to this. Am I missing something?

How good is your assistant/slave at milking the fiend? If they're not good you might have to train them to do it in order for them to get it done.

I have only had a small rear gripper thus far in 2.0 and haven't tried to feed a slave with it so I can't tell whether or not it's broken.

You're right - her fiend mating skill level was the problem.

My fault and thank you.

It was in changelog.
When doing a ctrl+f search on the changelog, I can't find any occurrence. I think I definitely didn't write that.

If you want to go to the bottom of this, can you take a screenshot of where you see it?

Try again:
Changelog -> 1.8 -> #8

Well, I didn't have anything to do with 1.8. When beginning to work on 2.0 back on page 20, I saw someone state that 1.8 was the best version. So we took it as our basis.

ordos was the "1.8" specialist, maybe he could answer to your question :)

spoiling doesn't seem to go down no matter how much you put in place ignore rewards or even punish for no reason i have the slave set to worst possible living conditions and its been weeks and its not changing. Not sure why but equipping athletic cloths and sneakers increases spoiling to 1 or 2 even though its not a gift... this makes weakened and feeble slalves impossible to train atm. I started a new game on the previous version and am not have any of these issues so not sure whats going on here.

the game hangs really bad on each new day and even stops responding, this wasn't happening on the previous version either.

i did put the loli patch in. not sure if that may have something to do with the issues im having or not.

so far i havnt seen any issues with the combat but i havent gotten far enough to really test it out.

I don't have any clue what might cause your issue with spoiling. Assuming it comes from a bug, normally it should have been present in 1.8 already and you are the first to notice it (on my side, I never had a spoiled slave, almost ever).

About the hanging, did you activate auto save? If so, I suggest to deactivate it and see if the problem still occurs.

auto save is off its just hanging really bad compared to the previous version and the previous version never stopped responding.

the punishment reward system has always been odd and needed a rework but it just seems to be worse for some reason i have never had a slave go over 1 for spoiling and its never taken more then a few days of not rewarding and putting them in their place to fix so not sure whats going on there.

hitting the mute button in the top right removes the backround imagaes from the home as well not sure if cycling the home backgrounds fixes it or not i just reloaded to a previous save before realizing that may fix it.

did a refresh database its stopped hanging on each new day. still not sure what was going on with the one slave i had that kept being spoiled none of the others since have had that issue.
