It wasn't marked as abandoned, was it? If the dev is communicating on Patreon or similar about working on the game, the abandoned tag doesn't hit the thread until 18 months without an update. Once it's on, it stays on regardless of anything else, until a new update drops and is updated in the thread.

They should be more like me, When the game was slowing down for the first time and I complained the whole comment section jumped on me about how this is actually good for them because they enjoy the “Slow burn”
Now from time to time I pop out to ask if they still enjoy the slow burn

Nobody is upset with the game, they are complaining about the length of time between updates.

Does anyone even know, if the dev is still accepting donations on patreon?
As far as I know, it's possible to pause one's intake of donations, whilst still having the patreon running. Or am I completely off?
