The point he was making was wanting characters with more personality. For example like the one from Dark Hero Party as he mentioned and no doubt your comment that takes a jab at the mc as a cuck protagonist -- Imos (name of the character) has a great personality that goes with the character -- meaning it makes sense to the players playing the player character that he was cucked. If Imos was either nameless/ faceless self-insert, if you as the player playing the player character were to then self-insert yourself or your own character into that role, then you'd feel as if yourself or your own personal character just doesn't exactly fit that character mold. This is the flaw of self-insert protagonists.

So it's not that he wants more rapist/ cuck protagonists, he just wants more MC's that are designed to fit the mold of the character being played by the player. And the character MC doesn't have to be either a rapist/ cuck, they could be a stud chad who forms a harem or has a monogamous vanilla relationship with a heroine with no dark/ gray twists of adultery, so long as the character is well fleshed out with a personality that fits the mold, it'd be a good game. It would otherwise be like trying to imagine some small limp-dick protagonist somehow forming a harem as a Netori character magically taking all of the heroines away from other more well-endowed male side characters that are better suited to the roles being reversed, it just wouldn't make sense and could only come off as some comedy relief running gag.

It is because people get mad when they can't self insert into characters. Fully realized characters have their own wants and values which often conflict with self inserting. It is also the reason why most VN tend to be trash , entertaining but still trash.

The colours and overall art quality are pretty good, though. But I'll admit that the girls look more like brightly coloured candy than something you can actually fuck.

I do agree that 7 gigabyte is a lot for a visual novel, even today. Oldschool and the simpler indie VNs are usually just a few hundred MB. And even the fancier older titles that still hold up well (like Fate/Stay night) are between 1 and 2 GB.

Compared to that, those newer high-end VNs just seem bloated. Like, what's even the point of being three, four times the size when the whole thing doesn't look that different from titles that are more than a decade old?

I hear ya. But this particular genre has been stale and formulaic for over two decades now.

Titles like this keep being made because Japan has millions of burned out office chumps who are nostalgic for a youth they never had.
