I think it's kinda self explanatory is why. Just interact with every character you come across and you'll be taken along all of their scenes. What ending you get depends on how many times you end up being defeated by the fat dude.

Nope. It's either you use the items in combat or not at all. If memory serves me right trying to open any menu aside from equipment will cause it to crash, no idea why.
