It's nice that some players entertain themselves in this thread by posting what-ifs and maybes, but it's hardly the only way to enjoy the game. It's entirely possible to appreciate the setting and individual scenarios and not be concerned about every detail of the over-arching plot.

While I would agree with that in theory, in practice I find that with VNs that take their worldbuilding and intrigue seriously with a capital S I rapidly end up failing to keep track of it all and eventually just tune out everything that isn't an immediate choice (which is the part I care about when I try playing porn instead of watching it). This understandably gets even worse with games I get to continue playing after pauses of six months or more, where I end up completely forgetting not only what everyone's game is and what my last choices were but straight up who the heck is who even supposed to be.

I do appreciate that. For me though, sex plays the central role. I do want an engaging backdrop for it, and I do want true agency within that world - but what I do NOT want is having to play a game of chess to get to the lewds; everything else is secondary to the porn for me, however much appreciated if done well, and as soon as it starts getting in the way it spoils my fun.
