It is becoming increasingly clear that the shift to Ren'Py was a mistake. Months of development time have gone to trying to make the engine do things it's not designed to do (the shops, the combat system, etc). Worse, all of those things are trivial to do in RPGM, and Sierra has a ton of built-up experience with RPGM.

I can't remember what the rationale for the switch to Ren'Py was, but I'm 100% sure the game would be way more fun to play if it was done in RPGM.
I can't speak for anyone else but I hate RPGM, it's so slow it really ruins games for me, the combats bad no matter the engine and replays or alternate playthroughs are excruciating, I think a lot feel this way as I've seen many people post on several games similar complaints and that's why they switched. Personally I feel 95% of the RPGM games on f95 would be much better received if they we're on Renpy, it may be harder in the beginning but I think it's definitely worth it in the long run

Matter of taste, I find RPGM combat boring and backtracking in NN was annoying, among other things.
is the combat in KoD any less boring? they tried to make it interesting with this momentum thingie but the end result is that it's actually even more boring and stale than it was before.

backtracking is a valid point but you can minimize that issue with well-designed world layouts in RPGM. at least in RPGM games you learn about the game world by experiencing it, instead of what we have in KoD (pages and pages of word vomit broken up by literally nothing)

Not very interesting, that's true, but less of hassle then in NN. I like writing in KoD, and Renpy is just more pleasant to use. Really did not like sprites, npc portraits in NN too.

I also believe that making the game on ren'py is worse than RPG Maker, given the scope and goal of the game. Ren'py is fine for text and lore heavy games (visual novels), but if you intend to have combats, gear, items, Quests, etc. just use RPG Maker.
It's not true that RPG Maker games are boring, if you put in some times you can actually customize a shit ton of stuff, like parallaxed maps, custom tilesets, soundtrack, sprites, combat, etc., also the engine is so much better for creating a world with multiple towns/cities/locations like in KoD.

Renpy vs RPGmaker for me always boils down to being able to somewhat have immersion, somewhat have a feeling of the world. Personally in Renpy I need a lot of things happening to keep me distracted from the thought that in the end, im just really clicking through different options in a shallow world. Instant Travel from "Instanced Room with background" to "Instanced Area with background" doesnt help. Even small events that might happen while travelling would help, make it feel more alive.

Then again, if the game is not meant to have exploration, combat, equipable items etc. then Renpy surely helps to not have a "walking simulator" as many call it.

I can't speak for anyone else but I hate RPGM, it's so slow it really ruins games for me, the combats bad no matter the engine and replays or alternate playthroughs are excruciating, I think a lot feel this way as I've seen many people post on several games similar complaints and that's why they switched. Now I really have to disagree on the combat part. My best example is a translated japanese game where the combat system is really fun. You have Ability Points (AP) from a limited pool to use in combat on things like strength of the hit, chance to hit, avoid getting hit or negating damage, you can play defensive and actually wear the enemy out, because they also got a limited amount of AP they can regenerate, or you can go full in and waste through your AP for a quick victory. AP also regenerates every 5 turns for example (if your main AP still has some left), which adds another strategic factor. It all plays nicely together, and works perfectly for turn based combat.

And the other complaints are just the developers laziness to add in something like quick travel, speed increase, replay scenes in a room, or skip content already seen. Then again, this is a forum thats not really focused on japanese games, and some of the western developers tend to make unnecessary walking simulators. Mostly because they are indeed new to this.

hey guys I am still wondering if someone can upload a save? maybe at the start of the feast? hoping to avoid having to replay the first half the game again. doesnt seem to be any uploaded since the dev required everyone to start over.

I think Ren'Py as a better choice to rpgmaker for most adult themed games for the simple reason that rpgmaker is very oriented on jrpg game-style, which tends to be a time-sink kind of game.
So you either end up with a jrpg-esque kind of game in which you grind a lot and see few lewd, or you dumb down the rpgmaker core mechanics to alleviate the grinding. In the first case, the game can easily become obnoxious for a game designed to center around sex. In the second case, you're bloating up your game with unnecessary assets that rpgmaker brings along.
That's why I think visual novel is the best way for this kind of game: you don't really care about being able to wander around dungeons, you care about choices and scenes. For the remaining part narration and being able to travel with just about a button are more than enough.

Besides, games made in Ren'Py are easy to open up, dissect and edit, so to people like me they provide extra value.
For instance, I enjoy looking up the code behind story forks or adding snippets here and there. The most fun I had this way has been with Lab Rats 2, tinkering with random events and such.

Seems I'm not the only one having trouble progressing with the Kia quest. I'll try a few more things later to double check. I know most people just unlocked the gallery and started fapping away, but can anyone who has played through all the new content successfully let me know what you did?

Unlocking the console breaks the game. Anyone have the same issue?
It's been addressed a few pages ago. I'll quote for you.

Alright, I managed to make the console work. I'd upload the files, but I haven't posted three times yet. First, you're going to have to replace your 00console.rpy file, and maybe its .rypc file, in your renpy/common folder. I replaced them both anyways to make sure. If you keep them as it is, even if you managed to mkae it so you can call the console in game, you wouldn't see anything. Make sure you enter the new 00console.rpy file to ensure that config.console is True. Next, you're going to need to edit your 00keymap.rpy file. CTRL+F to find "console = _invoke_game_menu," you're going to want to replace that with "console = _console.enter,". After that, you can go into your 00start.rpy and directly delete lines 299 and 300. If you do so, you can access the main menu when the game starts up.
There you go. Shift + O should open the console, and you can use ESC to access the menu.
Seems someone else beat me to it by less than ten minutes. Oh well, here is the message I was writing.

To fix the console window not opening, open renpy/common/00keymap.rpy and find line 364:
console = _invoke_game_menu,
and change it to
console = _console.enter,

Then find renpy/common/00console.rpy and replace it with the console file from another ren'py game. It is possible to fix the existing one, but its quicker to just replace it. I used the file from superpowered and it seems to work fine.

There are multiple ways of fixing the error message on start up with console or dev mode enabled. One which doesn't include decompiling the game is to open renpy/common/00start.rpy and remove line 299 and 300.

if renpy.has_label("before_main_menu"):
call expression "before_main_menu"

I haven't played through .5 yet, but if you tell me what's the matter exactly I can look up the code for you.

A few people including myself are having problems progressing Kia's storyline. You talk to Elmy and go with her to pick up ingredients for a potion, but after that nothing happens. You can't talk to Kia because every time you try it says she's distracted with something else, and Elmy doesn't have anything new despite saying that she'd make a potion with the ingredients. I'm just wondering if I somehow caused a bug or I simply missed something.

Here is the updated walkthrough for 0.5.0.

There might be some mistakes with the new content. I didn't test it as much as I usually do. As always, tell me if something doesn't work.
Also the previous content (Everything up to 0.4.2) should be inaccurate, I believe they made some changes but it wasn't my priority to locate them just yet.

I'll release a better version after Hreinn Games' hotfix.

Edit :

I'm pretty sure there is nothing after the bones. Same thing for after you escort Elmy.

I believe that, after completing the content, you get the message "Kia spotted Sabia on her way and approached to lick her face, but then ran off to chase something. It seemed she was too restless to talk for now." when going to meet her.
Do you get another message ?

Edit : I doublecheck, I'm not pretty sure : I'm certain of it.

This is the code snippet from the game.
If you get the "Kia spotted [...]", you already have the progression of this scene at max.
It probably will be expanded further in the future.
