This is depressing lol, was actually really interested in this game and the sheer potential was something to look forward to what a shame. Sabia was a real one rip.

I have posts from 2021 in this thread calling this game dead and some people here still insisted that it was perfectly fine and justified

and your still wrong plus its not dead its abandoned and it was still getting updates back then. and the only thing we have to say it is abandoned is a post from an employee who could've been lying for all we know.

They probably want to make a new game because they don't have the rights to Sabia's drawings.
So, they're inventing a lame excuse to create a game similar to KoD, by attaching themselves to a useless character, who arrived at the end of the game, that no one cares about.

The risk is that Nomo will be resurrected and claim the rights.

What's strangely suspicious is that they all have access to Patreon, but access is apparently difficult. It makes no sense. It smacks of a scam coming from a country not at all known for it. Lol.

We're going to end up with a lousy game that distantly resembles KoD but without the flavor.

They should resolve their confusion, sell the rights to what's left of the game, and let the AI and a few passionate players work on a new version. It would still be less bad.

In two years, Nomo will still be nowhere to be found, and the lousy remix will have produced no satisfactory results.
Except that their double Patreon account traffic will bring them enough rubles to smoke us again and again.

The flavor is mostly nostalgia at this point - the plot itself was average and the gameplay... lets just say grinding cleaning the village square isn't peak game design. It had potential and got many people hooked but there have been many greater games since then...

It is probably better to finally put a gravestone on it and move forward...

Also, I checked that they want to do a spinoff, then they might as well just finish KoD in the brothel game they want to do, as a sort of alternative universe idea, to give it some sort of closure.

Sad, been following this for what now, close to a decade? Did they officially abandon it or it's just in a limbo?
The info is literally linked in the first post...

On a side note, I noticed that there are a lot of games abandoned from (2015 - 2020) era, it's been years since I checked up on some... Grolokk, for example, also abandoned. KoD is especially sad, because it had two things I like - lezdom and monster races. Any recommendations for games (visual novels) that focus on these? (Can be 2d or 3d, rpgm or renpy, just western, not eastern)?

Legend of Queen Opala 1 and 2 are completed game and you can even play 2 without playing 1.
LoQ 3 though has been in development since, i think 2017?
Gabe has added a lot so the game has way more content now than it did when the first beta came out but still. 8 years and it still does not look like it's gonna be completed and it is likely cause Gabe keeps adding stuff. No idea what she gonna do after that and probably does not want to risk losing the golden goose

I think these indie games really need to be made in tighter time periods. No more than 2-3 years, tops. Have shorter plots, less ambitious functionality... because people's lives and people in general change over time. None of us are the same people we were 9 years ago. It's a huge chunk of our lives.

Completely understandable for devs to lose interest or the ability to work on this stuff in that time. People have lives to live.
Eh, I think that depends on the creator.

Taifun Rider's Space Paws visual novel is a great game that was slow and steady, took 5 years I think. That game's completed, they have a loyal follower base, and they're pumping out updates for a new game they're on.

Or Sierra Lee's Last Sovereign, if you're into traditional JRPG with sexy on the side. That's been going on for a decade at least, since I started playing when i was in elementary school and now I'm working. The updates got bigger and bigger to a certain point as she transitioned from it being a part-time project to a full-time job, and then it's been pumping out same level of output ever since. Oh, also loyal fan base + main game is complete; just the epilogue remains. She actually used to co-develop this game too, but ever since she left this game's gone to shit.

But you are right in that most creators flake out, which is disappointing. The good, persistent creators are far and few T_T
