Because he'd rather play videogames and not bother putting in some work toward the VN, I'm in a server with him and I see him most of the time online playing games on steam. It's just too much work for him to sit his ass down and have some work ethic.

Because it's easier that way. Each choice makes the VN hard to write. You have to think about - how it will affect the story and characters in the future. And since most authors write something hastily on the way to work or somewhere else, it's difficult. - It's twice as difficult if you're lazy.
You can blame Hiddenwall's laziness for the complete lack of growth and maturity of the MC, that'd require actual work and effort on Hiddenwall's part, which we know he's allergic to. so I guess we can only hope that someday he MIGHT actually be assed to plonk his ass down and put some actual effort, which is highly unlikely, but we can dream, no?
I don't hold a grudge, I LOVE this VN, but it pisses me off the he could do much more, but chooses to do the bare minimum (if we're lucky) because he can't be assed to have some work ethic, If you don't want to understand that simple concept I can't help you.
It is just the way you sent your text because it seems like you do even though you don't intend for it. I also dislike the way Hiddenwall does this but at least the development we get is solid and consistent for the story otherwise with too many options effecting the story some will complain on the growth/plot similar what happen with lustful desires. I just appreciate that the guy tries even though its his hobby and has little work ethic which is fine, you can't force someone to work even if it would be great. I also appreciate how hiddenwall does not make it a quick cash grab either. If development is slow but consistent for the story then great, I would rather it be that then the game being all over the place (I do like lustful desires for the so many options), a cash grab, or worse just dropping/haitus kingsguard after being burnt out of it because he felt he had to do more work then he wanted/can handle
You seem very upset with Hiddenwall, but you must remember that writing is not sitting down and vomit words, it requires inspiration, which is affected by how the author is feeling. It doesn't matter if he has free time, if he's not feeling, then he's not writing and that's not "laziness" or "bare minimum". Also, it's worth to remind that the VN is more than writing, he still has to do the little animation and sound cues on Ren'Py. If you love the VN, then assuming the author is lazy just because there's no monthly updates or so, is very unfair at least. Especially since he already warned that updates take a long time.
Oh, can you explain why he's online all day long, 7 days a week playing games on steam too? Because that ALL he does. I'm on a server in Discord with him and I see that.
Like I wrote, he writes when he feels like, and if you love the VN, he's doing something right.
