I played Meritocracy of the Oni Blade which is a really nice game. But I've slowly shied away from RPGM game, they're a bit too grindy for me in the long run.

Certainly! Summertime Saga is really well thought out story. You can tell that the authors put a lot of thought into it, and really thought about the characters too. I never finished it, as it became a bit repetetive to me, but I might return to it some day. In the same genre is "What a Legend!" I'm not sure if that name is correct, but that game is both good and hilarious.
Generally, I've come to like games where you have some control of what you do and where the H-content is situated around the story, and not the other way around. I'm really tired of playing H-games with moronic protagonists, extremely thin stories and Japanese games that generally just repeat the same tropes in an endless loops.
That is not entirely true their ar DEFINITELY traps in this game just not the kind your thinking of

Kingsguard 1.03 Leandros Chapter 08
This is a very lengthy chapter and comes with a few things to note before jumping right on into the meat of the new chapter. Remember that your save file may not always work between builds especially during later chapters. But starting back from the beginning at Chapter 1 will allow you to access a few new CGs.
There has also been a few bug changes for Koshiro at the end of Chapter 08 with the house as well as spelling and grammar updates for Chapter 1.
