I'm writing this to help out anyone else whose searching, or had similar issues to the ones I had. I'm entirely new to this game and VR, but determined to get things working properly.
Both of these assume you have betterepack.
There are two main options for VR (my recommendation)

and an unmaintained one called

. They are obviously not compatible with each other.
KKS_VR seems to be maintained, and comes with an good control setup for the maingame. This is far more complete then the other one, and really what you should use.
KKS_VROON is the main game and studio converted to VR, with mouse controls using your VR controller. If you want something super simple this might be the option for you. All it requires is installing and then the control setup is just using your vr controller as a mouse. I haven't played around with it too much, but it seems to work OK for basics. There were several issues I encountered however. First, I got really low fps in the main game. I have a very beefy computer, so doubt it was tied to that but always a possibility my settings were messed up. Second, turning up the render resolution completely broke everything. Third, for the main game, I had to tab out to use the menu on my desktop, and then tab back into vr once the actual game loaded. For studio I had less issues, though I was unable to get POV to work.
KKS_VR is more modern, and generally a more comfortable experience. If you want a better control layout and more vr interaction, this would be what I recommend.
I still encountered a few operation issues , I encountered several issues that I was able to fix and documented below:
First, when loading into scenes, sometimes the entire screen would be covered in massive colored hue and/or be incredibly blurry. This is fixed by turning off any effects added as depth of field and color correction will usually completely break your vision. If anyone knows a way to force these effects off (for all scenes) or fix this natively, please let me know!
Next, I had issues with sometimes the cursor breaking/being unable to move my mouse/if I ever alt tabbed in virtual desktop, tabbing back into vr and making the main window active would mess everything up. This I fixed by downloading the old 2.1 version, and overwriting the files contained in CharStudio_Data.
The release notes mention that studio is not within 2.5 (even though it'll launch just kinda broken). 2.1 was the last version I saw with studio mentioned specifically, and overwriting the files seems to have fixed the issues I encountered.
The controls take a bit to get used to but end up working great once you get the hang of it.
Hopefully this helps if anyone has encountered similar issues.
As a bonus if you are planning to play Honey Come there is a VR plugin out for that as well

. It requires using mouse and keyboard to control the game in VR (which honestly I would love the ability to do in koikatsu) but besides that worked great from my test run.
