Unpack the archive, transfer the extracted files back to the game folder, copy the modded file and overwrite, and then delete the rgss3a file

I am not an artist, so it's just gameplay.

There are rgss2a and rgss3a files so I just called it rgss in general. The process should work for either.

I tried to make it into its own folder like instructed, but it's just empty

Oh, I see that you're using the cracked version from here. In that case, it's very simple. Just extract the CommonEvents.rvdata2 from the mod archive, and then copy and paste it into the game's 'data' folder and overwrite.

That was my original problem: every time I tried, I got an error message

You need to extract the game first and extract the commonevents file. Use winrar to extract the game to a folder somewhere. Then extract commonevents from the rar file as well. Then you can copy it in there once they're both extracted.

Nothing, its the old (and only) demo from a few years ago. It contains outdated art/gameplay when compared to the blog updates. The next playable build we are likely to see is when the game releases.

Yeah...
Enokippu is working hard on it though, so at least we know the guy is cooking still. You can see that on his blog, it's full of updates about costumes, battle systems, sex stuff and what not.
From the looks of It, it's all pretty promising
