I am so excited for this game. But I also feel like it won’t be as impactful because you don’t have any characters that the story can latch on to. So I think that having a female companion or such that is stable through the entire game would do a great deal for the story. I remember the reason that I count Lab Rats 1 as one of my favorite games is that I genuinely loved how developed the characters were. I feel like standard dialogue would not carry the same weight as talking with Mom or Alexia and seducing them.
This is literally a tech demo. I'm a backer and I'm not bothering looking at it, but basically he's spent months building scripts for generating the repetitive content so he can focus on the story. So things like all the permutations of various clothes on various faces and body types, and generic responses to apply to different personality types.
I don't think this means there won't be any original characters or events, I think that's the point of doing this, otherwise there'd be nothing left for him to do except hit the Randomize and Generate buttons. From the sound of it, for 0.1, he's going to focus on creating two distinct girls.
This basically means that content for this release is planned to grow exponentially once he starts creating characters and setting up scenes that can be run through and generated for each character.
For an example of what to expect, take a look at Glassix, they've started doing something similar, and they went from a handful of girls to over 20 or something at this point with about a dozen interactions each in different location-specific outfits. Their the only real limiting factor is creating unique events and storylines for each (Each character has four level milestones that correspond with a unique event, these are still done by hand and maybe only 4-6 events per update).
Lab Rats 2 will probably be even faster since he doesn't bother rending a male.
That said, I kind of hate the new art style and wish it had a different name. "Lab Rats 2" made me expect certain things. It feels weird to see it switch from a more anime style to the generic Daz models every other game uses. I'll still play it, but it's disappointing.
