It's called "luck", some what rare find, rng even. Also, you can't catch pregnant fish (or whoppers) in an area if you don't complete the quest for that area from your friend in the inn. He'll ask you to catch a couple of the fish from that area.

You need tengu jump skill. It's fairly late into the story before you get it.

Can anyone direct me on how to get back to the flying fish? I thought I'd just have to be out on the boat but I've caught like 60+ fish on it and haven't seen it once. It's the only prego and whopper I still need.

Different sides of the boat have different fish. If you don't have it already, you should get the eagle eye skill from the fishing guild. It lets you pick what fish you want to catch making it easy to know if the fish you want is where you are fishing or not. I think you have beat the game first for it though.

Does anyone have a cheat mod that automates the fishing mechanics for you so that you don't have to fuck up the rhythm game mechanics of the fishing events? Or am I better off just using a save file from this thread? I would like to at least unlock the whopper and pregger fishes on my own if possible. But would rather use some kind of cheat engine than someone else's save.

here is my save... only the big and preg versions are missing
Do you plan on creating a save with all the whopper and preggo versions of the fishes unlocked as well?

Your character. They give some minor bonuses, except the assassin one which like triples your movement speed around the map.
Thanks for the clarification. Also, can you modify the Save.rar file that tanabe74 posted by adding a two or 5 next to it if you don't want the save to overlap with your own save file?

Probably. I'd guess you could just change it from savedata01 to savedata02 for save slot 2 or savedata03 for slot 3 and so on. Just make backups if you're really worried.

By the way, there's now an English guide for this game now:

So I'm going to use this as an attempt to unlock everything on my own. Also, does leveling up make the fishing minigame any easier? Because the Giant Catfish fishing quest at the shrine is such bullshit. The first three steps are easy but then the fucking timing speeds up as if this game expects you to have superhuman reflexes. Is there a more powerful fishing rod I could buy which would make this fishgirl boss much easier?

EDIT: I bought the Yoshimitsu Lake Fishing Rod, so hopefully it'll give me a fighting chance at catching the giant catfish.

EDIT 2: I'm about to face up against the Sea Goddess of Inzu. Any advice for what gear I should use?

Side quest give you end game fishing rod, costumes, collectible
Tbh this game is so straight forward and it can be clear within 1hour or less. if you speedrun it just do the main quest
