Oh, man, not to completely derail this conversation but the Japanese legal system is not at the same standard as a US/European one. It is generally regarded as a horrifying nightmare by the international community. Top features of said legal system include:I find it hard for the police to believe this, since they have few police officers as Yumi already said, so it is also a very low police capacity to start an investigation. So I guess that's why the Girls didn't even consider Sara calling the police.
-You can be held for months, even years, until you confess. Even for minor crimes like shoplifting.
-Bail for prisoners that do not confess is basically unheard of.
-Interrogations are not recorded and anything you say will be filtered through the eyes of the police.
-You are not entitled to a lawyer and lawyers are barred from assisting you during your multi-month interrogation.
-The prosecutor is not obligated to hand over evidence that would exonerate you.
-Trials have a 99.8% conviction rate and largely exist to humiliate you.
I'm not sure if the police will ever be involved in this game but if the "real" Japanese legal system is involved then Sensei is turbo fucked.
