He was surprised by the lack of reaction? Bro... that scene was so over the top and out of left field it was simply too much to do anything with... like, all context was missing, so what was there to worry about? We reacted to how fucked up it was, sure, but caring about it being Maya? No, how could we? we have next to no clue what happened and it's such a severe jump there's no way it wasn't going to just be reset... also what you said about her being a lesser version of Maya he's done a shit job of getting us to care about, but still, as a writer, i can't fathom wtf surprises him about the lack of reaction... he didn't write anything to react to... any head in the box would've garnered the same response cause there's no person in the box, just a head... a dead, soulless head...

Edit: am i making sense here? Like, there's the character, the person Maya, but she wasn't in that scene so the mind does not jump to 'oh no, is she going to be okay?'...
Hmm lets see why people didn't care:
  • Death has proven (mostly) inconsequential.
  • Maya was literally right there in the room with you, so who's is the head.
  • How did she get it, like what?
  • Nu Maya is incredibly unpopular.
  • She is not the character we came to like (Even then it was debatable for some).
  • She is the cause of many other chrs problems.
  • Current iteration is cowardly.
  • Most of her events so far have been lore related, and do not develop her.
  • Ami is a psycho, I'm probably not the only one who knew almost exactly what was coming.
  • We were about to be reset, so it doesn't matter anyway.
She needs to develop before anyone will give a shit about her dying.
We don't have attachment to her, only the person she's in place of.

Who's that with Haruka and Sara?

Also, I would love to know how the conversation of Sel requesting to use a song goes. Does he tell them the kind of game it is? I feel like if he says it's for a visual novel, it is a bit deceptive to the real subject matter.

Then again, I'm sure he thinks it's fine to talk about the messed up themes of his story... I guess it depends on your personality and what you think about WRITING a story like that vs supporting a story like that. But I don't think I'd be able to willingly admit I'm writing an extremely explicit story of an active groomer who was groomed.

As much as I dislike Maya, she is a very necessary plot device. I hate her because she is the reason why the real Akira got stranded, in all meanings of the word.
She is a sick desire that manifested from Akira's sadness, turned into reality, her existance is proof that he's still broken, to finally be free means letting go of her, forever.
And here is where my final theory about how the game will end.

I've said in the past that we will probably have to make a choice at the end of the game, and I think it's going to be this:

We will have to choose between forgetting Maya and giving Himawari the life she deserves, Or save Maya sacrificing the other.

Don't worry, Maya will get a memorable death.
This is would be really interesting to see.

As much as I hate to admit this, I feel like the correct option would be to choose giving Himawari the life she deserves over being with Maya and I feel it would have a more impactful emotional punch compared to the alternative.

I wish Sel will give Maya the most gut wrenching death if that should ever be the case

I am truly lost at whats going to take for people to start liking Ami again
It's quite simple really, she needs to stop being a cunt.

Ever since Chapter 4 she's been insisting she knows best for Sensei and ruining everything she touches in her quest to assert control over him, and the only time she showed any remorse for any of it was when she drew blood from Sensei. Last update she supposedly killed Maya, decapitated her and gifted the head to Sensei. Even in this update, Ayane comes to her outright asking about the time loops despite her never having a reason to know Ayane knew about them, but she still thinks she knows best and threatens to kill Ayane if she reveals it too.
If she had asked "What do you think he would do if I told him the truth?" and then didn't try to play for control again my opinion of her would have skyrocketed, nowhere near best characters of course but right now she's firmly in the Villain I hate to watch camp. Until she stops trying to control Akira she's always going to be on the back foot, and right now she's just casually murdering her supposed friends she's just nothing to care about right now and I play every update hoping for her downfall.

You know who else in chapter 4 was like this? Nu Maya. And until 0.45 - 0.46 when she finally understood Akira's story was real, and then listened to Yasu enough to chill tf out and finally apologising to Akira for being overbearing and finally pouring some of her out out to him, I bounced right back into liking her again. She spent the last cycle in a abusive relationship with Ami and there's probably some commentary to be had there, but her non action was being constantly overshadowed by bow much of a cunt Ami was.

I honestly think a vast majority of the player base would be surprised if Maya just ceased to exist, but wouldn't care if she did. It's obvious Sel wants us to care about Maya. He even stated he was surprised, after she got decapitated in the last update and no one cared about what happened to her. Even though as of recent, she gets at least one L per update she's in. And the biggest L of them all comes from this update. Sel stripped away the most interesting aspect of her character, then proceeded to give her the shaft constantly afterwards. At least when Noriko constantly got the shaft, she had a likeable personality to fall back on. Nu-Maya doesn't even have that. Sel made it hard to like this stripped down version of Maya, when there's nothing left to like.
It didn't affect us as much because it was a cheap shot. The death happened in the first place because Maya was being stupid. How tf can you remember being raped by someone, abused by her all year, have an out and not take it. Again, probably commentary about abusive relationships but again, overshadowed because Ami is being a gigantic cunt again. What did Ami even get out of decapitating Maya and showing her head to Akira. Isn't she supposed to be looking out for him?

Then we literally fix Maya in the next event so we never saw any proper consequences. Nodoka had more consequences with her death simply because she talked to Akira before it happened. And then the update wraps up with a cliffhanger so specific that it killed ALL discussion of the game.
Does anyone remember how the thread was silent 3 days after 0.52? No one really wanted to talk about the killing, I think because it was already fixed (Though there were a bunch of people wondering if there were going to be lasting consequences, there was a chance this would be chapter 5). We had no reference point to theorise what kind of place a interdimensional safe zone outside of Terminal 23 would be like. We had no update to compare what kind of update 0.53 would be like because no previous update has been half main events and the other half being one character's events. We had to previews to give us clues to the update so there was nothing to do.
I'm pretty sure Aramaug's theory about Maya's death and the noodle bar has been the first big theory of 0.52, and that was mere days before 0.53 which had a two month gap.

It's much worse actually.

Also, since I'm on this topic, I'll revisit a bit about the Ami x Second Maya situation:

i have been playing this game since maybe v0.10 and this update is the reason i stick with this game even through the sometimes... less than stellar.. middle of the chapter lulls. some really nice emotionally resonant character writing and interesting lore.

i don't follow the discord or anything, do we know anything about where abouts we are in the story arcs and what should be coming next?

I don't think i'll ever be able to enjoy the game as i used to after this update, cuz damn it, it destroyed me. I knew there was some obscure shi going on, but this? This is depressing ash.

Knowing the truth makes every fun holiday update or sex scene meaningless imo, like, i am pretty sure we all hated Akira at some point but i wanted him so be happy, to find a PURPOSE and hope in his life and now that he managed to find it to only being stripped from his memories is enough for me to not able to play this game the same way i always did.

It hasn't been confirmed, but it has been implied so many times that we have to consider it. Sekai died in a car accident, and yet Akira has multiple thoughts involving suicide since the beginning of the game, including the thoughts of what happened to him after he jumped, and who found the remains. The very first event ends with him jumping from a rooftop, and the happy event "baby finches" also ends with him going to jump again (assumed).
Maybe someone has brought it up before, but I think this scene in The Letter 'T' is a symbolic aftermath of what happened after Akira jumped. That rundown old school building is there. The fact that it is not a part of Kumon-mi is there. A corpse on the ground is there (though I am never sure who that is). Maya amiokay being crucified (penance? sacrifice?) right at this spot is here.

Good point... what happen of a wish if the one who wished for it die or disappear? Is the wish collapse on itself (by popping-out from the sheer existence or by self-degrading (like the world our Sensei live in)) or it stay?
(Not talking about the wish of a wish, who's much more weird)
I assumed it's the first, because it's simple logic (and logistic if we trust Himawari... imagine having an infinite amount of forgotten wish to take care of...), but... Sel may have another definition of logic and logistic.
