Even in a world where the Io thing didn't happen, the way the girls act in Nodokathon is nonsensical. These are teenagers who have had at most one sexual partner. Just because they're horny perverts doesn't mean they're going to jump at the chance to get naked and pleasure themselves in front of a random group of their classmates, not all of whom are their friends.

Even before the girls witnessed Nodoka reveal Io's most intimate secret, they already knew that she's the creepy incest girl who has zero respect for other people's personal boundaries. With the possible exception of Rin, none of them are friends with her. And yet they decided to accept her vague invitation to some sexual event, without knowing the specifics of what they would have to do or who else would even show up (for the most part).

All of the girls have individual factors that should prevent them from participating:
  • Rin knows Nodoka is writing a book about their sex lives and is constantly manipulating others, she knows this shit isn't going to stay private. She also gets extremely embarrassed and stops functioning in any situation that's even remotely sexual.
  • Makoto is in her "doesn't give a fuck" phase and has no inhibitions, but she also has no incentive to participate - she's straight, so it doesn't do anything for her sexually. Her most notable previous interaction with Nodoka is being (repeatedly?) sexually assaulted by her in the gym showers. There's no chance she'd give Nodoka the satisfaction of agreeing to what she wants.
  • Sana is a secret degenerate, but she's also cripplingly shy and has only just started to come out of her shell. It's insane that she would do something sexual with people that she still struggles to even have a conversation with.
  • Molly's degeneracy is limited to h-games that she plays in private because she's scared to get involved with real people.
  • Noriko is so committed to Sensei that she refuses to act on her attraction to the other girls (especially Kirin) before she succeeds in getting with him. I don't know why she'd make an exception for what's essentially group masturbation.
  • Even Kirin's supposed promiscuity is all talk, no action. There's a reason she's never been with anyone other than Sensei.
We often say that LiL isn't a porn game, it just contains explicit scenes in service of telling a particular story. Nodokathon is porn for porn's sake and doesn't belong here. To make it happen Sel had to ignore consistent characterization in favor of ridiculous porn logic.

Was there any canon or plot relevant info in the fanfest? I didn't bother with any of it so I thought I'd ask. I know Otoha has basically been confirmed as a shotacon but we already knew that.

Some insights in the scene commentaries but nothing earth shattering iirc. You can search for the people who did walls of text about it.
Search for the Q&A there were some production insights there as well as some bait.
Sel can still write Maya Prime proper even after a year.
Explicit Shotohacon
Proabably an insight into an upcoming Yasu scene if you can think about what kind of scene would use her fanfest music. The other 3 felt about as deep as Uta's song.
Sel used little bunny for the ending of Forever Young, implicitly implying that Maya's song isn't a generic song used for true love (it was used like that in one scene before little bunny existed iirc)
Io's stated to be asexual (and made a cuck chair) but I'm not sure if that's actually main timeline canon, as opposed to being shorthand for a trauma response.
With effort, Kaori can talk normal. She lacks enough of a connection with Akira to try.

When I can put aside all the time to go through huggy boy I'll mention if anything is relevant. I imagine it'll be more in jokes for future updates rather than past plot.

I can relate to that. But I don't think Nodokathon is merely a fan-service. Nodoka elaborated her intention in detail here.

As in, she's trying to "break character and shell of everything" to save everyone from given inertia and inanity. I believe in Chandler's Law she talked about same thing. Nodokathon is no exception, all part of her experiment to find more intriguing aspects of character to help her understand and distort the world.
I found myself agreeing and disagreeing at the same time. Agreeing part is that Nodokathon didn’t happen without a deeper reason. I don’t really mind why those six girls showing up despite the very recent Io incident; some wouldn’t understand the full picture, some might not care at all, and most of them have personality weaknesses that could be easily tapped by Nodoka via invitations. They showed up for her experiment unbeknownst to them.

The disagreeing part is how poorly defined this experiment is, or how intentionally hidden an explanation is behind content wall higher than the walls surrounding Kumon-mi, to a point that believing her experiment becomes a tough pill to swallow. Saying this is because her experiment can be summed up to “rebelling against this strange world and understanding Kyoko’s words via all female sexual contests”. Like WHAT? How does that make any sense? How did she come to this conclusion that this particular experimental procedure might’ve brought the results she sought? It’s exactly 1-yr anniversary of Nodokathon and has she really learned anything from it? Has any participant become any “different” related to this purpose after Nodokathon? Did any potential insight provided by Nodokathon partially help her reach the roof? If yes then how? Does Makoto backing down or not affect her conclusion of this experiment? If no then why? Would you(Selly, not you) mind explaining how exactly Nodokathon could achieve Nodoka’s goal?
(If there actually is mention somewhere that indicates Nodoka learned something via Nodokathon pls slap right in my face; I’ve never stopped judging this event chain and I’d like to change that if possible)

I care less a lot why she does things and care a lot more how and why certain experiments can do just that. For this I have a million more questions for Nodokathon. But because I have not been convinced that Selly/Nodoka can answer them properly and Nodokathon itself doesn’t seem to really on-screen help Nodoka become one step closer to her goal, I have no reason to believe this isn’t just a mindless fan service and it’s no wonder that many of us think Nodokathon is just that. Let’s face it, THAT is what we received and you’ve really gotta just hardcore believe in Nodoka and Selly without a doubt to just buy everything Nodoka said that night as if Nodokathon was some secret villain plots that don’t need to make any sense to the audience (“it just is okay it makes perfect sense stop asking you don’t know shit” kinda deal). And this pisses me off to no end; it’s like Selly doesn’t know how to make Nodoka smart so he forces his audience to be stupid.

edit: oof wake up to a bunch of bad grammar

Regardless of how much sense it does or does not make. The Nodokathon does seem to me like it must have contributed a bit in the progression of everyone that was involved in it. So at least in that sense I guess it might have achieved something. Not that I can say that with any certainty though. And I suppose its a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy to make that observation, so maybe it means nothing at all.

After having survived the FanFest, let's get the thread going as it did again:

One of the things the FanFest played with was the notion of purity routes and of how it would start from a regular past event going differently.

So, tell us, which event you'd like to spawn a purity route and how? I'll start:

It may be my lack of sleep talking... but the more I play through the game, the more and more I start getting the "Coma" vibes with Sensei.

Specifically, I'm reminded of a pretty well known story of a redditor who, after being knocked unconscious, to the point that they nearly died; experienced an entire life while in that Coma/Unconscious state. In the story, the guy apparently lived several years (some argue as much as fifteen) in this parallel world.

I know it's kinda cheesy, but it could explain all manner of things. Like the various "happy" events, how he has no real memory of before he 'woke', how characters seem to appear, or change, or go through various experiences... Basically they're all in his memory, and his brain is trying to fix itself while keep him entertained. Those "happy" events reflections of the pain he's going through, or the actual damage he suffered.

I dunno, but I think Sel hates this kind of cliche.
