Ren'Py Lessons in Love [v0.53.0] [Selebus]

Yesterday(today?) at 3 am I was crashing out writing a post about Sensei, but I'm glad I didn't post it since it was unnecessarily emotionally charged. Now with a clearer mind, I do still feel the need to write something.

The thing about Sensei is that

He is. He knows it. He accepts it. And he won't do anything about it. Which is the first problem. As Moonflare said saving sensei from Sekai won't give us a healty person. This is the second problem.

There are two other characters they admitted that they are bad people.

And there is a third problem. We know what Sensei sees. But we have very little idea of what Sensei remembers. This causes Sensei to look like a passive, coward, lazy, retarted, detached, uncurious. You can have few of these with your main character and still tell a story without making the reader wants to punch air. But all of them at the same time? I'm not saying Sensei is all of them but he could be all of them and narrative wouldn't change.




Selebus saying there are years left until the ending makes me sad but hopefull. Even the chapter 4, famous for it's bleak structure, made me love characters that were "worthless in my eyes. So selebus still has talent and (while i'm not sure how clear it is) a vision.

My 1st attempted playthrough resulted in me being a "bad homie" to Rin as well. Thats somewhat common for 1st timers cause there is nothing in game other than her asking you to wait in one event prior, so easy to forget; plus you dont know exactly when it is that Luckily, since I grew up in the olden days, I had kept a large number of individual save files so was able to go back and restart from just before that decision.

My thought exactly. Unlike the majority of other red paths, bad homie isn't even a typical conscious choice but a complete accident. Back in the true sandbox days of this game, when you trigger Schadenfreude unknowingly too early, most of us first-time bad homies were thinking "hell yeah another Chika event fucking finally" instead of "TODAY, I CUCK RIN". It's not like I get to decide when or if I get to put fingers in Chika; all I did was knocking on her door and bam here goes my future Rin events.

And for Otoha, one of the last thing she did (even if I'm «happy» about it), was that she «exchange» a private photo of her (ex?)girlfriend to get a photo of her favorite idol.

Of course, Sensei accept it, so he is responsible too, but that also mean Otoha isn't better than Sensei (and that's not a compliment).

I don't know if I'm more surprise about Japan's or Virginia's part on this tbh Regardless, it seems like Japan has actually been sending people to Virginia for years, which explains a lot about their falling birthrates.

To be fair for some of us...I was one of those who first got bad homie in beach, but that was by design from Selebus. There was no way to avoid becoming a bad homie.

If you were playing update by update since 0.1.0, getting bad homie was an inevitable outcome. Chika's [Schadenfreude] was in 0.6.0 while the first beach was 0.8.0.

Like even back then I did tried not to cuck Rin as much as possible by refusing to kiss Chika in her [Side Event] event. I liked Rin, since she the first character to have an event (alongside Futaba but I don't care about Futaba lol), I had a soft spot for her.

Will it be Himawari that says to him "hey, there's a hidden part of you that you forgot existed, but it has always been there for you to find", and magically he'll be able to become his own person? after 30 years?

Kirin, i don't give a shit about her so i will keep it short. She is a slutty whore who doesn't want to be a slutty whore anymore.

I'll bat for Kirin a bit. It's not that she doesn't want to be a slutty whore. It's that she's wanting to feel things now. For the longest time she thought she was numb, a psychopath with an interest in sex who spotted a predator who could make it happen. She liked the idea of being the sex friend to someone else's lovey dovey couple. But even during early Ch.2 there's been some hints that she might have been feeling a little. A couple of moments during Noriko and Kirin dorm events where they talk about the no emotions sex and how she was deflowered in a love hotel. The event where she was reading up on psychology (she wasn't just reading it just to read to Sensei after he lavender greened Molly). Her responses to saying you'd marry her and fuck Noriko, the events that then lead to the chapter 3 date.

It's only in Chapter 4 after you almost SA Karin that she's made to see what she's becoming. Noticing something's wrong with Karin, bothering to figure out Akira is involved with it, trying to confront him without a plan in the kareoke booth. Trying again at the christmas party with the monks where Akira spells it out for her that she cares about Karin, that they both pretend to be numb when they both actually care a lot, that he wishes he could care as little as Kirin does and that he's just a tool that she'll regret when she gets older. Kirin sees what she's becoming in him at that moment, rejects that idea, rejects that she'll regret him and everything he's done so far, confesses that she loves him and wants to know what love feels like....before Chika cucks her heart.

Then she has that talk with Ayane learning about how Akira feels love and starts her redemption arc with a big L. I can only hope the beach happens and updates stop feeling as bad as they currently feel. As good as some moments are, it feels like we've got iron boots holding us down since nothing big can happen until the beach (And Niki breaking with Akira is somehow not a big event). Once we get past it, if the updates start getting based again, Kirin finding out that Akira and Noriko have finally fucked could be huge, considering how their relationship should change based on all of this and Noriko. Maybe something will happen with that little end of the world reference Akira mentioned during the christmas Kirin chat. Maybe Noriko will talk to Maya now that they've both fucked the same man (Or in reallity, now that the shoe is on the other foot).

The thing is there is nothing there. He has always been someone's toy. So there is nothing to recover.
That was the whole point of losing his identity. It might not have been his intention, but it gave him the opportunity to become something. But that shit didn't work

Fuck recovery, fuck his past. Fuck his name. He has to destroy or abandon it completely, because clearly forgetting isn't enough

There might have been something before. The game has repeatedly brought up him wanting to have been an astronaut. That might have been his thing before his life went to shit.

I guess it will be Tukan or Failed Lesbian girl 2 (molly). Or may a wizard win?

Watch Sel do Touka next update just to make me wrong, but I kinda like the idea of Tsukasa beating Touka to the punch, and Touka walking in on them after the fact. There's some Touka guilt over Tsukasa that could be made interesting (Though there's also a chance part of this update is Tsubasa informing Touka of Akira and Tsukasa's current progress)

I was rewatching some events and yes, she obviously has a younger brother/older sister fetish, but I can't say if she's 100% the same as her fanfest version, I was rewatching events from her and half this doubt.

Yeah I'm not really putting any stock in fanfest being a real reflection of our Otoha.

All we have in the actual game is like, two or three mild jokes about her having a brother complex - stemming from Nodoka, who twists everything to the absolute extreme of the truth.

Fanfest Otoha is a literal on-sight full-on child rapist. Until there's a single reason in the main game to think that's the case I'm gonna stick with believing Sel did it for content and there's nothing deeper to it lol
