And something I've been wondering about lately is if Maya Prime's "death" caused such great damage to Akira's psyche. Could Nikki's "death" cause equal or greater damage? Something like forcing a factory reset on the entire world, similar to the beginning of Chapter 1. And understand "death" as Nikki's disappearance from Akira's life, either literally or by her leaving him because she couldn't stand all the deception and incest.
You might like Niki that much...But Akira has never shown as much love for her. Most of him talking about Niki is stuff like "I should be happy with her, why aren't I" He can be balls deep in her and his eyes are on the teenager across the room touching herself.

He can remember memories around CH2 Niki. Sitting on a bed with CH2 Maya was enough to make him black out.

0.50's Niki events should give us some good fuel about how he feels about her. We know he is happily fucking Niki and then fucking other girls and inviting new girls to his house while she might be around.

To be fair if he had encountered that same situations with Maya I think he probably would have reacted much the same, and he'd undoubtedly still be fucking around with other girls. I think it's kind of hard to really parse the extent of his feelings for Niki at this point with how bogged down they are by both his self-loathing and self-destructive tendencies.

All that being said yeah, I think it's pretty clear that as far as Sensei goes his feelings are/were stronger for Maya Prime than anyone, including Niki - which is further proof that he's completely insane because Ayane is right there

I just finished Chapter 3 and, uhh… what I’m about to say might disappoint you guys. I barely felt anything at all—not because of spoilers, but because I still can’t bring myself to fall in love with Maya enough to feel anything.
For example, I only liked Niki like everyone else at first because she’s cute and a tsundere type, but I didn’t think much of her. Only after the “Glass Walker” event did I find myself actually falling in love with her character. Same with Ayane, Rin, Touka, Sana, etc.

As for Maya, I couldn’t get myself to love her the same way I did with Niki, even after three chapters. This is gonna sound rude, but seeing Chika (if it actually happens in the future) realize Akira was “cheating” on her behind her back all this time might affect me more (even cry because I'm a dick who did that to her)

So yeah… I guess I missed out on that feeling of sadness or crying at the end of Chapter 3 like everyone else
I dont think anybody was really sad over Maya's "death". But I lost interest in Maya after she didn't become the all knowing guide anymore. Once she lost her mystique she was done for me. Now all Maya is summed up to is "Akira notice me. Akira have sex with me."

Maya has never done anythiing for me and now I like her even less. If she'd stayed gone for a couple more resets, I'd have enjoyed the last year of the game a lot more.

I would put og Maya in the middle of a tierlist, but the rooftop scene did make me feel. Her lines, the faces she makes, and story impact combined for a heavy scene. To me, it is one of the best scenes in lil, and it visits my mind often. The loving acceptance of oblivion.

On the topic of mid tier characters though, I found this gem on YT the other day. I say mid tier, but Miku was one of my favorites for a while.

Valid, Ayane is an absolute steal.
Total treasure.

As far as the loyal routes go she's absolutely in my top 5 for anticipation.
Top three for me.

Yuki's number one, 'cos there's a layer on top of Yuki of how Sensei and Yumi's relationship develops in that scenario - assuming it does and Sel doesn't just focus almost entirely on Yuki since it's her route.

I'd say he's closer to Ayane than Niki. Call it a problem with dev planning if you want, but how out of his way has Akira gone for Niki like he has for Ayane?

Staying the night with her early in Chapter 1 without even fucking a very willing but crying Ayane, breaking free of reset mania to soothe a scared Ayane, being strong for her after potentially losing Maya for the first time. Giving Ayane the list, calling Ayane first upon waking up from his coma (then spending a week with Ami before even calling Niki), not shooting down Ayane's requests including getting married, acknowledging how much work Ayane is putting into solving the world after Prime was gone and then fucking her so loudly all of the people in the slumber party heard her.

I dont think anybody was really sad over Maya's "death"
There definitely is. I can tell either from their responses to CH3's ending or the too soon worthy jab I took once.

But then again I'm one of the only people I've seen who's excited for the upcoming Maya events. Everyone else still thinks she's stuck in sex mode.

Anyone who finds Maya annoying or a bitch are not true tsundere appreciaters. She is the pinnacle. Yumi may be a perfect by-the-books tsundere but Maya takes the trope and nearly apotheosizes it.

I think shes a fantastic example of the star-crossed lover trope mixed with an extreme tsundere aspect that's driven by the plot.
To those that don't appreciate her, you just like... don't get it man 1747873263565.png

I still think Maya's "death" was just a subversion of expectations and the "death" flags were there for a long time. After she didn't make it to the rooftop the first time, we knew something bad was going to happen to her. But Sel made it seem like she really died, only for her to be back the next update. I think Sel should've held out on Maya's return. I know it's supposed to mirror Maya-prime breaking past Sensei's. But if there was no Maya for a while it would've made the "death" more impactful imo. And when she got reset I think she should've been written like how she was in Baby Finches.

Would've made that scene in particular more impactful, but I feel like it would've lessened Sensei's post-traumatic response and meaning of the following depression arc having to constantly be reminded of "losing" her.

While I agree, I still feel the same thing could happen if Maya was just not there. Maya could've been gone for however long and Sensei is still bummed and depressed only for the one of the things he wanted the most to comeback just for it not to be the same and it would've been a deeper gut punch. Then it could lead into the whole Sensei ghosting Maya arc and whatnot.

I was trying to figure out where I fall on whether or not I actually liked Maya before realizing that it's less that I dislike her in particular and more that I'm sad that she's basically a big wall to character progression. Especially with Nu Maya, Ayane really did put it well, there comes a point when fighting a losing battle gets to you.

I really like Ayane and Niki but I also just can't see their stories progressing any further without Sensei progressing and that's walled behind Maya and I feel that road inevitably leads him to Maya. But Nu Maya didn't go through all the shit Maya Prime did so like Ayane said it doesn't feel like she deserves it. It's not just Ayane and Niki though, Rin and Io's dates and first kisses also felt lackluster and I don't think that was just because of the individual writing around those events.

Ah well, at least Ayane was great this patch. Both choosing Ayane for everything and goth Ayane were super great so I'm alright with this patch. Nu Maya is also growing on me but that still isn't enough to put her over Ayane or even Niki now. I wonder if I'd want Maya Prime back then? I feel like something that heavy would have to be the end of this route though.
