Guys, you have a button. It will change the timeline, but the only change is... Selebus never adds extra 10 characters to the main cast. At most, a few of them will be in the side cast, like the Kanda sisters. And let's say, Molly and Tsuneyo still exist, but nothing more than side cast characters at best. But any character from the second school will never exist. No Uta, no Io, no Touka (and her family), no Nodoka, no Otoha, no Yasu, no Noriko (and Niki).

Would you press the button to change the timeline? If so, why?
I would not. To push that hypothetical button would erase a lot of great characters. Some people think the cast is too big, but I personally think it’s fine. You could probably trim characters like Rika out of there, but even still, I feel like she’s gotten better screentime lately.

So much important development wouldn’t be possible either. Like, imagine Lessons in Love without the one-sided Maya/Noriko rivalry. That means events like “Smells of Summer” or “I Will Deliver You To The Fireflies” would cease to exist too. Or what about “Spotless Mind” from Christmas 2 where Akira regains his first memory? The Niki date chain from 0.29? That has probably my favorite event of the whole game: “The End of the Tour (Glasswalker)”

No Yasu? Well that makes explaining certain lore involving HOPE a lot more complicated. I could keep listing examples, but you get the idea.

I just couldn’t see Lessons in Love without the cast we have. They’re all amazing in one way or another.

No. I'm hella invested in the second floor. Futaba, Miku, Chika (And Sana but she's special) are kinda meh right now and aren't likely to get attention that would change my opinion for a while. I guess Rin would benefit without her dorm 2 dalliance but she'd be shallower for it.

Uta, Io and Touka have their own progress that I want to see keep flourishing. I want to see where wife Kirin who saw what she was gonna become in Akira and veered away from it goes. Molly Cute. I think Otoha's gonna be important to CH4's ending if we don't get a new objective at the beach or something. Maya would be less without her reaction to Noriko in "What could have been". And the absolute crime of losing everything Niki brought to the game, I'd sooner prune some dorm 1 members to keep it.

I'd rather remove the insistence that the quarterly events (Dorm Wars, Beach, Halloween, Christmas) are always long event chains. Sometimes Christmas should be spent at home with maybe a couple of the girls coming over, or Akira visiting them. We usually get a similar effect with secondary parties that Akira isn't at. That or decouple those chains from the actual release date of the updates.

I'm depressed that you've even made me imagine such a world

This is pretty much how I feel.

Even ditching a couple of the less consequential characters like Molly and Kirin would be detrimental in my eyes - the fallout from the Halloween where Molly got raped nothing happened, for example, might not have been incredibly important to the main plot but it's one of the most interesting threads in the game to me in regards to learning about Sensei as a character.

I hopped on this train at 0.47 so I got to binge a ton of content and I was honestly astounded by how well the game paces and juggles such a large cast. I haven't had to deal with prolonged waits for story to pick back up the way some people here surely have though so maybe if I'm alive in a few years I'll change my tune but as a whole I think LiL paces its cast amazingly well. As is I can't think of anyone I'd be okay with dropping at this point.

Unless it's Sana and she's being dropped into Io's bottomless pit, I could probably live with that lol

I'd have to say no, mostly because it'd might as well be just a generic Dating Sim, then, tbh. Most of the drama and backstory comes from the second floor. The game would surely suffer if it's just variations of Chapter 1 ad nauseam.

Assuming the game continued without the school collasping then it'd likely become a dead end:

Overall: What might have happened if Maya never held Sensei's hands:

Considering Sel has said the fanfest will happen again, I wonder if he'll ever make a short what if for this exact scenario.

No chance. I'd take Uta, Noriko, and Touka 1000times over like Miku or Sana,
