Man, it should be illegal for Nikki to always look so pretty or wear so much pink.
And the last few discussions in the thread made me wonder: Would Lessons in Love be the same if it used a different graphics engine instead of Koikatsu? The game's strength is its writing and characters, so if it were made with Honey Select, for example, would it still be just as good for all of you?

Hmmm, so I think I've only played one AVN that used Honey Select. It only has like 7 LIs and I had a hard time telling some of them apart visually most of the time. With 35 LIs, I'd be even more lost and confused that I am.

Now maybe that was just the art direction of the creator, so until I play more HS AVNs, I can't say for sure.

I've played a few that used DAZ. They usually had almost as many characters in them as LiL does, and I never had a problem telling different girls apart. Now, those were also set in 'anytown USA" so the diversity was higher, so that may have helped.

Hell no. And im lucky that its in Koikatsu, otherwise it wouldnt attract me that much. Those ""realistic"" models just kill my interest (personal opinion)

It depends for me too. I've found that I can stomach wish fulfillments and just general hentai-logic stuff more easily when it's on "realistic" styles. On the other hand, unless it's done extremely well, I tend to be more critic of "deep" stuff if it doesn't have an anime style.
I wonder how much of this applies to others, and whether their expectations of the mediums influence their pick of games.

DAZ and Honey Select scratch that “uncanny valley” itch I’m not looking to scratch so much that I stay away almost exclusively. At least Koikatsu is unabashedly cartoonish, and so avoids that pitfall for me. Those “realistic-ish” ones creep me tf out.

Same. The characters end up looking super samey in most of the stuff I've tried too, much less visually distinct, I can't imagine one with 35 characters - though that's obviously a limited sample size so maybe I'm wrong. From my experience I can't imagine Sel would be able to pull off such a range of designs or the kinds of backgrounds and happy events he does nearly as well either.

The big advantage in my eyes for those engines is the animated sex scenes but that's by far the least important part of LiL to me, at this point I CC everyone's lust up so I don't even have to bother with them.

Honestly I probably wouldn't have ever tried LiL if it was done in that style. It's not intrinsically unappealing to me but all those games look so similar to me that I kind of just glaze over them at this point when I'm browsing.

Haha, yeah, at this point I’ve played LiL for so many years I can’t even imagine it in another art style I guess. The characters are established in my mind to the point that seeing them in another engine would be like when people do “[Famous anime character] but made realistic with AI” weirdness.

It would have to look anime which most of the competition doesn't. Unless you can replace the eyes with > < and it doesn't look weird, it would be impossible for this game to look good with all of the dialogue it's chosen

I feel like LiL could've worked in Honey Select if it had less of the light-heartedness of what we have now. The uncanny realness could've been interesting. On the downside there would've been less to work with in the studio and the gyroscopic boob phyics would've been abysmal to look at.

I have the same opinion as Moon, I think it would take a lot of the weight off Akira's past, Akira is very broken because of what Sekai did to him...... shit, when I started writing this here I thought of something, Akira involuntarily hides other guys, wouldn't that also be an indication of his trauma with his brother? Like, he doesn't hide the girls because he believes that Sekai's relationship with him was love, but with Nozomu he's angry, scared and that's why he hides other guys and not just out of jealousy? So much so that we know that Akira Prime really didn't get along with the other guys who work at the school.

I could see the Nozomu rape as trauma he wanted to bury and forget, and Sekai becoming someone they could trauma bond with, since it was implied Nozomu was abusive to Sekai too. And then when he loses Sekai he seeks the sex that gave him comfort during his bad times which is the real trauma he got from the car crash, the loss of the comfort that kept him sane. Why he mourns Sekai so much and doesn't give a second thought to his dead brother.

That would give him the reason he defended Sekai so hard from Maki.

Nozumo rape trauma could be an interesting addition to the story but imo unless some golden writing happens the result will just be the trauma caused by sekai to be watered down and more pain for the sake of pain.Mind you what i am expecting from Nozumo is neglect and physical abuse, aka actually hitting akira out of rage due to his ever growing relationship with Sekai, but not anything sexual. We will see though

I really hope the Nozomu revelation doesn't go that way, although there has been some foreshadowing of that (especially during the last christmas update with the gnomes).
While i agree on it's impact on story with nozomu reveal, Happy event "Good Boy", talk about eating veggies and tying shoes correctly, makes the abuser an authority figure inside family.

But i think Selebus may make it work with making parallels with other characters.
