If it's the complex network of character motivations that you like, I can recommend Pale Carnations. A word of caution though, it is a hardcore BDSM game, if that's not your thing. If it's the heavy subject matter and strange metaphysics you like, I can recommend Broken Dreams (next update is about to drop). I personally think this game is a lot heavier than LiL, and the horror elements hit a lot harder, but it's a personal favorite of mine. If it's the humor you like, The Inn by Lykanz is a well-liked game that's surprisingly hilarious (though not quite the same brand of sarcasm as Sel...quite frankly no one can match that same kind of humor).
Thank you so much! I'll check them.

Still new here, just completed 2nd playthrough, but wanted to share some thoughts on Io/Akira and Akira/Sekai parallels. Apologies if this has been discussed before:

First playthrough, Stomachache skip all the way. It felt too evil and gross. All of the loving dialogue and scenes post-skip with Io initially seemed to confirm it as the right choice.

However, after the 2nd playthrough doing the opposite and green routing it, my feeling changed.

If we skip, at one point Io asks if Akira is an Angel, and now she sees him as one and only savior.

I think this is a direct parallel to how Akira saw Sekai. When she opened the closet door and he saw her, she was his Angel. When things became groomy, the feelings of her saving him conflated with the obvious no-no of grooming/stat-rape/etc. Part of the reason Akria is so fucked up is that his feelings for Sekai are all so jumbled with pure good and bad. He can intellectually understand that what she did was wrong, as shown by his current self hate for repeating it, but he cannot conform that thought with her being his savior.

I think that if we skip stomachache, we become Io's Sekai. She's already messed up from her awful childhood, so the long-term effects can only be pronounced further. Niki talks about this after she catches Akria and Noriko. Sometimes the real damage isnt seen till way down the line.

I think it would really screw with Akira in future events too, since his self-hate has him literally asking for punishment or reprisal at various points. Having Io put him way up on the pedestal will only ensure a greater fall at some point in the future, likely in the dark path section.

recommendations for similar games with some part of same quality at least in storytelling?
Closest would be "Out of Touch". "Dissonance" is the least bad among the LiL lookalikes, but I personally don't recommend it - just letting you know it exists, alongside "Lost in You".

Stepping a bit away from LiL, if you want the school mystery thing, "Crimson High" is fine, but not that good either. If you simply want something with a story, no matter what it is, then there's "The Fiery Scion" and "Secret Island", those two are heavily D&D based. "Cosy Cafe" is a very soft submissive harem school one. All of these are ongoing games however.

Going into completed games: "Always Fan" and "Parental Love" are plots without supernatural elements. "Now and Then", "City of Broken Dreamers" and "Mist" step more into the fictional aspect of the universe, be it supernatural or technological. "Long live the Princess" is D&D like.

"Last Sovereign" is just amazing (expansive detailed universe, 100+ gameplay, great comedy, decisions affecting a lot), Sierra is a great author of other games as well. However it is rpgm-based, unlike everything mentioned before, and I recommend using a guide for playing it. Lastly, I just think "Boat" is incredible, but that's because I'm a big fan of time-loops and multiple endings. And while it is an amazing game, it is also not for everyone (best definition is "a meme that grew into something serious").

There are tons of games in my recommendation list (on my signature), you can check it out if you want as well (total is almost at 300 games).

Thank you for your response! I've already played half of your recommendations but there are still some I haven't heard about so I'll gladly check them. I've already skimmed through that list you are talking about too and picked couple of games to test. Sadly right now I'm greatly impacted by LiL and nothing really sticks to me, so i guess I'll give it some time to cool a bit and then will be able to go through it again to pick more so also thank you very much for that list.

This hasn't been discussed before because by the time we got to the "Redeemer Sekai" revelation, we had discussed "stomachache" to death. So I found your point quite interesting to read.

Yasu sings and I am in love. :(

She is such an odd little duck.

(Just now reaching the end of chapter 2, at near 100 hrs first playthrough...how long are chapters 3 and 4(So far)?
Uh, pretty long. Chapter 2 ends with the 0.23 update and we're currently on 0.52 so at your pace you've still got around 100 hours or more to go, no need to worry just yet about the journey ending lol

Ah, that's the best news I could have asked for!

I am enjoying Lessons in Love immensely; knowing that for current content I truly am only at the halfway point, with MORE content coming in the future? Fantastic news.

Thanks!

No worries, I love it too. I was anxious about it ending my first playthrough and once I finally did finish I started over almost immediately.

And then when I finished my second playthrough I started over literally immediately because the second run was even better in some ways lol

I have made it to chapter 3 and I am now heartbroken. :(
I don't even recall what happened at the end of chapter 2 that would make you so sad? Was it the Maya breakdown saying that she's been trying very hard, after Akira is able to bring her back from her flashback?

I'm pretty sure that's by the end of chapter 2, but do beware.

I suspect they reached the title card and took a break.
