I think, out of all the girls, I could actually be friends with this one.

Everyone: Who, out of all the many girls in the game, do you think would actually be fun to be around personality wise?

I lean heavily towards Io, Nao, and Kaori.

I honestly would pick the same 3 girls.

I mean, I get it, and you might be right. But I just don't see it. Assuming a character, in this case Maki, were to die permanently, and that the purity routes are only introduced, as planned, after the dark route which is still to come, it would mean that a Maki purity route would still be a year or two away, if not more.
I can't imagine a scenario that would make heaps of sense where Maki is reintroduced somehow to receive such an ending after she killed herself.

Hima-chan: "Oh btw Dad, remember Makoto's mom who killed herself from guilt caused mostly by your actions? I created a wish world where you fall in love with each other and fuck all the time and you leave Makoto alone you sick freak and everyone is happy. You're welcome."

That would feel tonally incredibly wrong. Obviously there might be a way to still implement it somehow, but I feel like killing off a character at this stage of the story would make it very difficult. There would be a need to resolve the conflict first, which would be difficult if the person is fucking dead.
Well, if she were to die, there isn't anything to directly say that she has to stay dead?

The rooftop apocalypse gang isn't aware now of how the resets work. Maki killing herself literally could be something that spurs them to investigate more/better.

Makoto has been very lax so far; Losing her mom(on top of her dad), may be enough to force her back into 'Class President' mode, which with the help of Nodoka, may actually bear some fruit.

We've also seen plenty of people be dead, just to revive at the next reset, without a way of determining who/why.

If Maki dies long before a reset, spending the rest of the reset trying to figure out how to spur the universe into reviving her could fit the literature trope of 'Man Vs. World' and still be usable plot.

A "consequence" doesn't need to be permanent to spur drastic change; It only needs to hurt enough to cause that change.

--

There are also non literal ways in which Maki could kill herself that would still work thematically.

Mental breakdown, social suicide(Which I think in this case would be telling the authorities about the predator in their midst, seeing as said predator is everyone's favorite person...), etc.

Plenty of room in either possibility to make a narratively acceptable consequence for Akira's actions.

I think I could also be friends with Yasu, truth be told. She has such a way with words when putting herself down. Like, I'd feel bad, but the enjoyment I'd get out of trying to figure out the new way she's referring to herself as useless trash would definitely even it out.

Her stuffed animals are also totally not creepy at all, so, ya know, got that going for the friendship. >.>

I also repeatedly find myself "Awwwwe...."'ing every time she is on screen, cause she is truly precious like 99% of the time. Weird sexually charged ranting aside, that is.

Even that's kinda cute from a 'crazy girl' angle, so I could get used to it. It's like that twitch streamer with tourette syndrome, Sweet Anita. All part of the charm. :)

Controversial answer: Sekai. I would give away *almost anything* to be able to have a proper one-on-one conversation with her and learn more about how she truly viewed the world – the glimpse of it that we get through Wakana’s take on her poetry fascinates me to no end.

Plus, Sekai just in general seemed like someone I’d really love to be friends/acquaintances with – aside from, y’know, her wizard inclinations and all that, but, hell, nobody’s perfect.

Molly, although I doubt I'd like her as much as most of the others, It'd be VERY easy to spark conversation with her given her interests.
It bugs me in a way that I would probably get along with Molly so well, with her being the Sel self-insert that is representing his nerdy side with all Japan knowledge (despite being White) and her being the VN/Hentai expert, but then I remember that he is also a douchebag and probably identifies with Nodoka the most who emotionally tortured Yumi, so all is grand on God's green Earth again, oh happy days!

I think Wakana and I would click. We would bond over back pains and wanting to walk into oncoming traffic because there are papers to grade. And we would probably make out afterwards. I also think Chika would be fun to hang around, simply for the fact she always has good company/interesting company around her.

Chika has been getting such a bad rap lately but early on in the game, she's such a fun character. Her eventual descent into possessive insanity is all due to Sensei being a piece of shit, but we hold her most to blame for it (smh patriarchy (/s?)). I'd chill with Chika.

We hold her to blame for it because out of 35 characters equally subjected to Akira's grooming, she's the one that went that way and was infuriating for it for years.

I understand that it is a joke, but there is merit in pointing out that we can't really overmuch blame a teenager when she's being groomed by an adult. That is, when we're not comparing her to people in very similar conditions with the same dude.

I mean, I don't see Makoto trying to throw Yumi off of buildings. She hugged her in bed instead. When given the choice to be either a Chika or a Makoto to your Yumi, be Makoto. That's the lesson here.

Else just hug Yumi in general. Also take her to see some turtles. I'd take Yumi to see turtles.

I agree Chapter 1 Chika is argubaly better than Chapter 1 Rin. As for Chapter 2 that's up for discussion. They're both caught up in relationship drama for majority of the chapter.

Because thankfully it’s only the weeb part that is the self insert and nothing everything else! There is so much hidden maturity as well as fun in Molly that Selly really should take some lessons from her.

Exactly!

Except for Ami, who is an actual psychopathic Incest Gremlin.

And Maya, the fetish doll.

And Makoto, who tried killing herself several times because Akira wouldn't be nice to her.

And Sana, who has fallen to depravity.

And Io, who decides that being a fuck puppet is better than losing Akira.

And Uta, who decides that it's okay for Akira to have CSAM pictures of her cause he loves her.

And Nodoka, that thinks his dick is the trick to breaking the world and healing her mother(?).

(I could definitely keep going here)

Several girls that all equally decide that sharing him is better than losing him.

That the most well adjusted of the entire group are Molly, Ayane, and Tsuneyo really says a lot...

Hmm....you know, I started this reply as a sarcastic joke, but honestly all the girls are kinda fucked up in their own way, so we really can't judge Chika for her own special brand of lunacy.

From my own POV, Chika's is actually totally on brand and logical. We have a girl that has been raising her dying sister since her mom died, working while also going to school.

Enter the 'Cool Older Man' that recognizes how like, totally mature she is, and like, thinks she so special.

Now she's got an older guy that makes her feel special, while a worlds worth of responsibility rests on her shoulders. Akira then helps take some of the load off. Paying bills, babysitting, etc. He's her boyfriend, and a father figure to her and her Sister/Daughter.

That she breaks when she realizes the facade was just that? That she breaks herself to try and keep the things helping her moving forward?

Honestly can't blame the girl.

I'll be honest, you guys worry me a bit... i can't imagine myself being friends with any of these people... they're either kids, teenagers, belong in assisted living or are too normie for me to tolerate any of them... i've no doubt i could get along with a few of them in general, possibly even enjoy my time in their company, but friends... no... i don't get that feeling for any of them... even when playing this out fictionally it doesn't add up to me... i'd rather go home and play video games than deal with teenagers or normies... Kaori seems about the closest i'd get to someone i could tolerate but even she's a bit too kooky for more than brief spurts of interaction...

I could have a conversation with a number of them, that i could do, and enjoy it probably... but yeah, after a few of those i'd be good and looking for my exit to home...

I don't quite get the sarcasm or the joke because, out of Ami, your point doesn't really land. And it's unfair to even include Ami because her situation has little to do with literally anyone else. One could also include Maya on that because she's literally a wish.

How does any of this has to do with the Chika situation, other than the obvious "being groomed by the same dude"? What happened to Chika was that she went insane not just when she found out, she went insane years ago by just rejecting reality and that's where the annoyance comes from. Akira's attempts to either tell her about Niki or that he wasn't her boyfriend are from quite early on. Her arc in itself is fine, that it took years is the annoying bit that I referenced.

I'll agree as far as the kids and teenagers are concerned, but the adults? Not so much. Maki and Osako would be cool friends to have, and the personalities would mesh well with mine. Don't even get me started on Wakana. She'd be a great drinking buddy for my nihilistic ass.

And as someone who resembles the geriatric bit -- all of the adults are still younger than me.
