Not sure. Usually, when I press the power button, the little blue light comes on and I hear the HDD starting to move, then after a few seconds it says "click" and turns off. I plan to take IT into the shop too. No shame to it though, the laptop is 10 years old now.

You definitely should check, because it's entirely possible that your hard drive is fine, and something else on your laptop failed.
