That's simply impossible.
Once you trigger the dialogue telling you that you loaded a save older than v1.4, your v14 variable is immediately set which prevent anyone from triggering this dialogue again.
So you're doing something very wrong.

Edit : Or maybe not but then you'd be a very specific case.

There a way to edit the relationships after the beginning? I ask because my save got borked somehow - picking it up for the first time since probably october or so, everything's right where I left off except suddenly it thinks I chose the default step- relationships, which I definitely did not.

The only way is during the prologue.

Okie-doke. Fixed it with unren. For future reference, for anybody else this happens to, stick unren in the game's root folder, run it, type '3' and hit enter to enable the console, hit enter one more time to close unren, start the game and load your save, hit shift+o to open the console, and type "anna_ref = 'mom'", hit enter, type "alice_ref = 'sister'", enter again, hit escape to close the console, and you should be good.

ETA: that's IF Vinkawa isn't kind enough to implement an in-game repair function so you don't need to mess with the variables directly like that, now that they are aware this can happen.

I found your game while it was in version v1.5, I've never downloaded any other version. It's not possible that my saves are not v1.5 and yet I get the error all the same.

Still hard to believe that your saves are ignoring the most fundamental thing in coding.
You load your save then your v15 var is set so it never happens again, it's very basic.

I can't provide assitance for irrational things, so I'm going to assume that your case is wrong, firstly because you're the only one with this problem, secondly because I trust my code more than a random on internet.

I just don't know, this only happens to a few people, I have nothing to provide for this matter.
