Not really. Everything has been done before. Instead of looking for ways to look different, just pick something and do it better....and real artists create.

It's nice and all you know your Kubrick, but putting it like that's somehow a counterargument to what Wonko said is a bit of a false dichotomy. By extending ad absurdum, if someone creates a fantastic painting, you could walk up and say, "meh, you didn't create that. It's got people on it and there's already paintings with people, so maybe you did it better, but you didn't creating nothing." Which is clearly a silly thing to say.Not really. We both said the same exact thing. Everything has been done before. Even if you create a story about a new space race or technology you will still be compared to other movies that invented their own aliens or technologies. It's nice and all you know your Kubrick, but putting it like that's somehow a counterargument to what Wonko said is a bit of a false dichotomy. The one thing you should do as a creator, in my opinion, is looking for ways to look different, to look for places to break away from what has been done to death and create something fresh.
Sure, if you break any creation down into components, it'll have stuff like cars and shoes and coffee and objects that are red and people saying hi, and for each and every component you can probably find some other work by someone and point to that and say "see, it's been done". But creation isn't about breaking something down to it's constituent parts and pointing out where it's been done, it's about assembling those parts into something interesting.
No, I'm pretty sure you said that artist don't really create anything and that Wonko shouldn't try to look different, whereas I said that artist do create something and they should try to find ways to be different. That's about as opposite as opinions get.We both said the same exact thing. (...)
Oh my gosh, I completely forgot about it. I'll release it right now. Nah, not really. Updates take a little shy of 3.000 hours to complete if the last one was anything to go on, and since I'm all alone, that means it takes a long time. Weekly progress updates are available on discord/patreon/subscribestar, and usually mirrored here within days by a helpful member. Why is there no update on the game yet or thy for got about it ?
I was obviously trying to say that trying to create new concepts and ideas is a waste of time because everything has been done before and it will just result in you not writing to the best of your abilities. No, I'm pretty sure you said that artist don't really create anything and that Wonko shouldn't try to look different, whereas I said that artist do create something and they should try to find ways to be different. One of the only dev's that gives reliable weekly updates and still people have to ask. You provide a damned flow chart...Oh my gosh, I completely forgot about it. I'll release it right now. You fuckwit!!!Don't you remember? You lent it to me at that BBQ a few months back. With the hedge trimmer. I just forgot to return it. My bad.
Not that anyone asked or cares, but this is why I barely post. There's half a dozen serious posters in any given thread and almost everything else is phone-posts from people that can't be bothered to look at literally anything in the thread they're going to post to. It's tedious, especially in a game thread where the material is very thoughtful and the developer is highly engaged. Why is there no update on the game yet or thy for got about it ?
You are underestimating just how much of a benefit those people are. Some great games have f95 threads that are basically dead between updates and it really hurts their visibility. Not that anyone asked or cares, but this is why I barely post. Nobody is expecting "War and Peace" from every post (well, expect from Naughty) but come on...is "no update, dev bad" the community norm that we really want?
Great. Every time somebody asks about an update, it gets pushed back another month. We were almost there and you ruined it. Thanks a lot.Why is there no update on the game yet or thy for got about it ?
Damn you Turning Tricks! I hope that hedge looks well kept and funded. There's more people waiting on that trimmer you know...Don't you remember? You lent it to me at that BBQ a few months back. With the hedge trimmer. I just forgot to return it. My bad.
Precisely. There’s no such thing as avant-garde. As comical as you may think Rule 34 is, it really IS a rule. Nothing is new. Every possible basic plot has been told. Every possible (delightful) melody has been written. (Banging on car doors while someone pisses into a vat of angry cats might be “considered” music, but it’s not fucking delightful). When Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol are considered the greatest artists of their time, art has been completely done. Nothing new can be.I was obviously trying to say that trying to create new concepts and ideas is a waste of time because everything has been done before and it will just result in you not writing to the best of your abilities.
I wasn't trying to imply that you didn't really make this game or that you should copy others.
Indeed. Trying to trim a hedge with a trebuchet is really tiresome you know...Damn you Turning Tricks! I hope that hedge looks well kept and funded. There's more people waiting on that trimmer you know...
It's a weird thing to think about, but humans have been performing and writing for thousands of years. At some point we came up with dressing ourselves in costumes, using props, coming up with twist endings and betrayals etcPrecisely. There’s no such thing as avant-garde. And that's how you get those bears infestation. You use one as ammo. keep a few around for more shots. Suddenly the bears in the wild are like 'who are you invading my territory and how did you fly in?'. And when they get their answer they're gonna come get a slice. A vicious cycle of feral mammals vying to be launched.Indeed. Trying to trim a hedge with a trebuchet is really tiresome you know...
It's interesting how the paintings in the museum all depict the same scenario of a story but still have a dfferent angle. And let those paintings sketch the scenarios/meaning/context for us the viewers. It's a weird thing to think about, but humans have been performing and writing for thousands of years. Instead of worrying about doing something unique like creating a universe in which people eat through their ears for no reason just focus on your ideas and inspirations. So what if a million tales about knights and dragons exist? Write a better one and wait until Amazon or some other soulless company pays you so they can adapt it and make every fan with a brain angry while making you obscenely rich and you don't really care anymore.
It amazes me how oblivious you remain—and foible has now joined you—to what either naughtyroad or I have been saying. Sure, the parts have been done, but I aim to put those parts together in a new way, that hasn't been done before, at least that I know of. To produce something original; a finished work that stands apart. It's a weird thing to think about, but humans have been performing and writing for thousands of years.
