Incredible game. Can't wait to see what they make next.
Chapter 9 hopefully.......Incredible game. Can't wait to see what they make next.
Yeah, because god forbid we put in anything that lets you apply a voice to your MC, or make it so you're still interacting with the experience in some manner instead of just clicking through a PowerPoint presentation. But hey, don't let the door hit you on the way out!Played through all of Season 1, and I must say, the story is fantastic, and I love the character development, but my GOD are there way too many choices that don't need to be there during intimate scenes. Like seriously, I shouldn't have to reply or have an option every like 10 lines of dialogue during certain parts of the game/story. Will be ditching the game and not playing season 2 as a result. Again, really good storytelling and the characters aren't that bad either art wise, but I think I'll avoid needing to make so many choices during basic dialogue, especially after love has been maxed for a WHILE for both main characters and their anger/anxiety reduced.
No you see, you need to make "really good storytelling" but you are not allowed to tell the story or give players any choice at all. Actually you just need to make sex scene after sex scene with no lines at all. Cause thats great story telling! /sYeah, because god forbid we put in anything that lets you apply a voice to your MC, or make it so you're still interacting with the experience in some manner instead of just clicking through a PowerPoint presentation. Mmmmm bitsThis week in one sentence: all the bits are in and my own testing in preparation of the beta has started. It's the home stretch.

except many of those "say something or say nothing" do matter. They do alter the structure of the story. Not necessarily immensely or immediately, but this developer has used player choices - even small ones - to flavor later dialogues and even open up optional layers within lewd scenes.I like how I mentioned the fact that the story was great and that I had already maxed out the love and lowered the negative stats but was ignored just because of my gameplay criticism. Choices are fine, especially if they contribute in some way to relationships, but man there are a LOT of "say something or say nothing" options through all of Season 1 that could probably be removed since they don't really seem to matter. Regardless, I apologize for trying to give an opinion on games in a forum/website for said games where comments like that could, I dunno, maybe help or at least be something for consideration. Best of luck Mr. Gamedev man.
I don't think I was trying to come off as a victim, merely sharing criticisms, in an open forum, where stuff like that usually happens. Yes the game is free, but that shouldn't make someone immune to criticism and get mad over it.except many of those "say something or say nothing" do matter. They do alter the structure of the story. You made an active choice to share your opinion in this thread. Accept the consequences of your choice. You had two choices in this thread: to say something or to say nothing. You chose poorly.
You could have ask the dev first if they want your opinion before you share. Also, even though he gives away the game for free, why should he listen to you who - for all he knows - never subscribed to help at least nibble at his expenses.
Or you could have done it differently, asking "I am curious how my choosing to say something or nothing so often affects game play? Is there something in the code that tracks that for later use?"
Instead you went straight for the aggressive mode "but my GOD are there way too many choices that don't need to be there during intimate scenes. Like seriously, I shouldn't have to reply or have an option every like 10 lines of dialogue during certain parts of the game/story. Will be ditching the game and not playing season 2 as a result. Again, ... I think I'll avoid needing to make so many choices during basic dialogue."
You came in aggressive and now you want to play all conciliatory and toss a victim card after the dev told you what he thought of your attitude and unsolicited, as well as uninformed, opinion.
Do not play the victim card. You are not a victim.
Again, you instigated it. You proffered unsolicited opinion in an aggressive way and the dev was well within their rights to reply in a similar manner.I don't think I was trying to come off as a victim, merely sharing criticisms, in an open forum, where stuff like that usually happens. "I am curious how my choosing to say something or nothing so often affects game play? Is there something in the code that tracks that for later use?"
That's a valid point, I could have worded it that way initially, but the dev also didn't bother stating that at all in his own response, instead also just being snarky in return. I'm not a victim, and I don't claim to be, but it's not like the reply was perfect either.
Thank you, oh wise one. I will make sure to think about every choice and post I make here moving forward, like in the dev's visual novel.Again, you instigated it. You proffered unsolicited opinion in an aggressive way and the dev was well within their rights to reply in a similar manner.
I'm not saying it should be immune from criticism. I feel we're are just going around I. Circles, but reread your second post, your response regarding to the dev's reply to yours.
He quoted you directly and responded in similar manner as you did with your first post ever in this thread. In fact your first post on this site in over the 4 years you've had an account here.
In response to his post, you didn't bother directly quoting him. Instead you played passive aggressive, opining into the very end with a snarky apology "I apologize for trying to give an opinion on games in a forum/website for said games where comments like that could, I dunno, maybe help or at least be something for consideration. Best of luck Mr. Gamedev man."
It looks like you deliberately talked past the dev, making a grandstand about some kind of fair play in the art of rhetoric.
No. You were dropping the victim card. And are continuing to do so.
Thrice now you had 2 choices: Say something or say nothing. Your poor choice wasn't that you said something. It's your tone, message, and delivery.
As such, your interaction in this thread was effected by you saying something in that manner, rather than a different one or remaining silent.
Anyway, I wish you good luck and I hope you can see how making a deliberate choice, even minute ones may change the outcome.
Just like in dev's visual novel.
Genuinely got a laugh out of me hahaha, reminded me of the Smiling Friends homonculus
You know, why don't we put this down to getting off on the wrong foot? Let's ignore for a moment that your opening post could easily be interpreted as a "good day to you sir!", and since that would have been a weird start to a conversation, mine was basically "and to you.", and lets focus on when you said the following:I like how I mentioned the fact that the story was great and that I had already maxed out the love and lowered the negative stats but was ignored just because of my gameplay criticism. First off I want to thank you for giving me the chance to start from fresh in regards to talking about your game. I appreciate it, honestly. You know, why don't we put this down to getting off on the wrong foot? Let's ignore for a moment that your opening post could easily be interpreted as a "good day to you sir!", and since that would have been a weird start to a conversation, mine was basically "and to you.", and lets focus on when you said the following:
"Regardless, I apologize for trying to give an opinion on games in a forum/website for said games where comments like that could, I dunno, maybe help or at least be something for consideration."
Morado definitely isn't wrong when he says that comes off as passive aggressive, but maybe that's understandable too, given that you were clearly expecting a different kind of reaction, so I get where that comes from, I do.
So, let me start of by saying, it is something for consideration, and it was considered. Albeit briefly.
I'll compress your opening post here as:
"All those choices make no sense if the love score has been maxed, and it has been for a long while."
Even if that loses some nuance, I think that's a fair reduction, right?
And you know, I get it. You're a gamer, so it's second nature. You see a score, you max it. Choices are a tool for pumping up the score, and maxing every chance you get is the challenge. A ton of games out there reinforce that notion every day. And now it's maxed for the characters in Light of my Life, and you have a tool and nowhere to use it. WTF, right?
But that is not the design philosophy behind Light of my Life. I could start a rambling post about what that is, and why, but instead I'll link to a rambling post I did earlier. Not because it addresses the point you raise directly, but it goes into why the choices are the way they are, and the love point system is the way it is, and why you have the "say nothing" choices and options that seem to have no consequence other that the fact that the game let you make them.
The post in question:
Oh my god, I hate the walk through mod. - A rant
I invite you to give it a read, and then reflect on your opening post with that in mind, and consider why your criticism was rejected seemingly out of hand. Mind you, I'm not asking you to agree. My hope is that you'll come to the conclusion that it was rejected not because of a thin skinned dev, or a hostile community that lives in an echo chamber, but because the criticism you raised conflicts at the basic level with what Light of my Life has been trying (and hopefully sometimes succeeded) to be.
And if you don't agree with that philosophy, well, that's okay. First thing a dev learns is that you can never please everyone, and it's a fools errant to try.
Best of luck Mr. Gamer man.
