For me, after about 5 minutes of seeing that screen it gives me a message of screen calibration, at which point it takes me to the home screen. I'll wait for the compressed and hope hope it's now compatible with JoiPlay (former version wasn't).

Haven't played the update yet as it is still downloading. I have a "family" patch from 2019 (relationships.rpy) and was just wondering if it needs updating or is even needed.

No. Don't use it. You can name the relationships within the VN, when asked and then update in preferences after.
