Java Lilith's Throne [v0.4.11.3 Hotfix] [Innoxia]

To whoever is having issues with F95 (connection errors, extreme loading times, etc) - you are not the only one. I've been having issues with it for several days now but somehow it got worse lately. Other people have been complaining about it too. I think the admins know of it but need time to get it fixed... whatever the issue is. Some people reported that using a VPN fixes the extreme loading time but the forums themselves are still unstable so it's not a complete fix (and not for everyone either).

I had to switch to Opera to use its free VPN, it's not ideal but at least now I can browse and post comments without having to wait literally 1-2 minutes every time I do something or change/refresh the page. When the "F95 Connection Error" appears, just keep refreshing the thing every 2-5 seconds and eventually it should go away... unless the servers are under actual maintenance.

EDIT: Apparently the amount of people who use F95 has doubled in size. From 2 million to 4 million just this year (probably because of the recent lockdowns). This would mean the servers are under extreme stress and it would kind of explain the issues it's having...

The problem isn't so much that the kids move, it's that the game calculates status updates in a naïve and wasteful way. The only status that needs to be processed every turn regardless of position is pregnancy, but the game will perform status update calculations on all NPCs regardless of where they are in the world.

I wrote a patch a while back to defer most status update calculations until the player lands on a tile with an NPC and saw a huge increase in performance with a slight decrease in memory allocation.

Considering the patch specifically mentions performance updates related to "unmet children," I'm curious as to how much of an impact it'll have when there are a lot of active NPCs in the world. I assume the patch ensures that unmet children aren't impacted by status calculations, but I haven't looked into it yet.

I'm not sure. The source code mods that I do are all engine fixes, not game balance changes. Sorry!

Do npcs do more than 'squeal' in response do everything yet? All the spinneret and bunghole algos in the world aren't going to make a text-based porn game suddenly have content write itself.

As one of those people let me just say that spamming F5, while not at all the best solution, is damn well effective. Unless you ever intend to quote a post or make a comment. In that case, you're just fucked until things settle down.

Yeah, the uniqueness of Lilith's Throne is the only thing the game still has going for it at this point. The second someone manages to replicate even half of the stuff that works in this game, Innoxia is going to be looking at a huge loss of subscribers.

I don't think that's ever going to happen. I'm just as frustrated with LT's lack of development as anyone else, but I've yet to see another game come close to anything LT has to offer other that CoC/TiTS. And with CoC2 being more of a scripted VN than a choice driven transformation game, that really just leaves TiTS as a game of comparable quality. And every game that does tries to be like LT or even CoC just ends up being abandoned in a pretty short time. It's just easier to make another Ren'py title.

LT's main issue is it's really too big and too complex now for just one developer to be able to handle it, or at least a developer like Innoxia. I would bet anything that Innoxia isn't your usual project scammer for funds like the majority of Patreon/etc. games out there, she really does seem to care about her project and delivering on promises. However, she's also neurotic, and some level of perfectionist and/or narcissistic. Throw some OCD in there, too. Woman breaks down and has some sort of episode every other week, and I'd bet it's mostly stress related. She could resolve most of her problems by growing her team and delegating development to others, but as we've all seen, that's not going to happen.

I can kind of see where she's likely coming from. If you look at CoC2/TiTs, it suffers in a lot of ways from being developed/written by fifty different people, but in exchange both games are packed with tons of content. But an above average game that retains some of its quality and has lots of content is better than an excellent game with a very low amount of content. Hopefully LT strikes some sort of balance in the future, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

Really what LT needs is better modding access for writing scenes and variety for scenes there right now. Make it so it's dumbed down enough that you don't need to be a coder and a writer at the same time. Might take some stress off and let people flesh the world out and encounters. The game has a lot of fans, I'm sure there would be people trying to make something for it if it was easier. Something other than clothes mods, anyway. The meat of the game is text really and that's what it needs.

Then Innoxia could focus more on what she wants to do, the engine, bugs and bigger ideas.

Really, it's all too much for one person. Inno really needs to find a trusted partner who understands Java at a low level in order to fix the engine or, as I suggested before, introduce a bug bounty system. The game's source may be available for perusal and modification, but that only gets you so far.

A team instead of a solo effort would make a world of difference. People are already noting various technical issues like the slowdown as it goes on. Probably should have done what you said - better planning ahead of time to avoid these issues rather than try to fix or rebuild something that is now implemented. I'd love to see it go down the path of easier modding though. Good there's some effort in that direction. I remember some time ago trying to look into modding and writing some scenes and variation for it and I was just confused and had to give up as it would take way too much time to get started. Content mods (more text) to suit every taste would be great and people could pick and choose.

I think that only works so far, otherwise various patreons out there wouldn't ever dwindle. They can and do die off eventually, even if it lingers on a pitiful amount for years.

The question isn't when 4.2.5 will come out or the state it will be in when it finally happens. No, the real question is how long will it be until Inno posts the exact same excuse/reason for missing a deadline. There's only so many excuses out there, after all. She came dangerously close to repeating one of the September/October posts of this year word for word this time, not that it was just different enough to tell it wasn't copy-pasted without a direct comparison.

Which part are you stuck on? There's quite a few parts of that quest that are poorly explained.

So long as you are not searching for the boat, as that is the only other part I assume you would be stuck on, my advice is to wander around the bat caves and keep on beating up slimes until your quest updates and you are given a new objective.

From what I can remember there's only one with the Rat Warrans in the Submission. Inno doesn't like the idea of Bad Ends in their game.
