Ah, you "just" had gallstones, then. Painful, but not the same. In my case one stone got lodged in the duct leading out of it. Imagine filling a balloon with water, then squeezing it in your hand and having it squish out between your fingers because the water can't go anywhere until it's about to pop open.I didn't even feel it when I broke my femur - just happened too fast, and it wasn't as bad as the couple of migraines I had when I was younger.
The stones were like a feeling of massive constipation - I thought if i could just take a good dump, I'd feel better (that had actually worked once before when I wasn't aware of what was going on). What worked the "first time" didn't work the next, obviously, and the pain was getting pretty bad. No vomiting, though. Was told the stone near the upper duct was about the size of a nickel and that there were several smaller ones. That's why they decided to just remove it instead of trying to break them up. Did arthroscopic, so only a few little incisions and stitches - I probably can't even find the scars anymore.
Anyway, had a laparoscopic surgery with 3 incisions (one of which was in my belly-button) 3 days later (although they thankfully hooked me up with some opiates and I lived on a diet of zero protein so no more massive attacks) because, predictably, there was a wait.
Recovery wasn't bad, although the first trip to the toilet was unpleasant since I had zero abdominal muscle strength when I tried to stand back up.
...it occurs to me anyone reading this is going to get fed up with this conversation.
