Things to check:

1. Did you check your tasks? You won't have a lightbulb in your inventory but your tasks will change from Find a lightbulb to Change the lightbulb.
2. The randomizer runs each time you enter the garage. So make sure you stay there and click on each cabinet (including the ones under the bench).
3. Make sure you take the ladder first.
