I think I've seen you in this thread since quite a long time ago, were you always struggling since then? What race of Lona are you playing? What level is your Lona? What's your trait build?
My personal general tip would be to play Lona as a mixed race (Moot+Abomination). Compared to all other races, this one makes my run on almost every single build several times more fun and satisfying. Playing another race other than this makes me feel like Lona is suffering from disability.
As far as Mage build goes for early play, there's a way to pull it off. However you need to be meticulous and smart about the way you use those spells at low level, since they're not strong enough to be effectively used in chaotic battle, which you may not find fun to execute. Since you're looking for a 'fun' way to play mage, I advise you to follow my guide in my signature, rebirth into a mixed race (Moot+Abomination) and play a mixed build if you want to have a good time at low level (combining Physical, Magic and Succubus build, exception being Healer build since this build gets locked the moment you select any of the other builds). At low level, Magic will be mostly used for utility purpose (like Fire Book's stun, Tornado's mob control, Fire DoT injury infliction, etc) until you raise WIS high enough to get the advantage of its damage. Succubus build at low level with no Nymphomaniac personality will at least be able to effectively kill/stun some little mobs such as goblin, hobos, etc until you get Whore of Babylon and raise CON to at least 10 (20-22 is preferable and should be the stopping point, no more than this as having too much sex attacks will mean less way to stun the NPC, you want to stun/disable NPC instead of killing them outright). Since Physical doesn't need you to raise any point in COM to deal heavy damage, this will be your main source of damage at low level.

If you follow this build, there's no need to raise COM, as Physical damage is already high enough at base (using the high quality weapons), which is further increased by Abomination race. There's no need to raise SCU, as the Moot race is stealthy enough on its own. There's no need to raise SUR, as the Abomination race allows Lona to survive travel just by consuming corpse (this allows her to travel with 0 Food stat as long as there's corpse to consume). All you need to raise are CON (10-22) and WIS (as high as possible, until you can reach overal 90-100 wis stat).
That said, even at level 15, if Lona is a mixed race, then you'll already have a very good time playing almost any build. I can make multiple video demonstrations of every single trick this Lona can do even at this low level if you want more details.
