This. Crashes are most likely because projectiles are a big mess. Some projectiles are summon of a summon, some are just summon, some have user recorded, some not, etc. I have no wish to dig deeper into them because most projectiles are coded inside RPGMaker and not external scripts and its editor is awful. This also make modding them hard.Teravisor posted a version a while back that disabled companion projectile friendly fire damage, but it's always crashed the game for me.
