Maybe she ransacks the office and steals some money while she is at it and it looks like a robbery gone wrong. Who in his right mind would suspect the Yakuza for a robbery in bumfuck nowhere in the middle of the USA?
Fair but Killing them seems a bit harsh. If anything I could see taking a finger and taking Tomoko as compensation for wasting their time. It would be more on brand with the Yakuza and their sense of honor. oh yeah it was a piece of shit. Rusted a lot even though it was in a garage. Rear engine, not enough radiator in the front, so overheated all the time. Going up a large hill? Good luck, you really had to push it to get enough momentum. Stuck in traffic in the summer? Good luck, it will cook itself alive. Granted, back then it wasn't as bad but some tourist destinations still had traffic jams.

Ah, yes. I remember this masterpiece of enginering. My father had it for a time. Because engine was in front but had RWD it was difficult to drive up the hill. To resolve this problem he always had few paving slabs in the trunk.
