We had the same experience. The only junior officers I remember being able to delegate, well, were the guys/gals that were prior enlisted who decided to make the jump to Warrant or try their hand at OCS. Yep, first lesson for the butter bars was to respect platoon Sergeants and above. They didn't have to say, "sir" but they sure as shit deferred. Mustangers made great Jr. Officers. They came up through the ranks and most of them made Sgt. or Staff Sgt. before getting into OCS. Some were battlefield promotions, those were called sir with a capital "S". Dunno what it's like these days, that was back in the day... as in last century.
