Never saw the movie, but read the book several times, still one of the best war stories ever written in my opinion. Close second is: The Bridge.
But, yeah, your reference makes very little sense here. Thanks for reminding me of a fabulous book that I haven't re-read in over 20 years... Oh boy, I'm going down the Erich Maria Remarque whole thing again...
