First off, it didn't take 7 months. He paused payments for subscribers during times where his IRL job got too busy. Apart from that, getting on Steam is a lot of work. I can't emphasize that enough. Since I helped him a lot with getting ready for that, I can say so just from that experience.
As I've mentioned previously in this thread, he was also spending time looking for music that he can legally include in the game. While there's a lot of places to get music, a lot of them do not allow the music to be used in adult games. He also had to create the ability for his engine to handle music. He had to come up with achievements for Steam and then implement Steam's API for handling that.
There was also a lot of testing going on with Steam. It's not like Patreon or SS where you just zip up the game and post a link. It's more involved.
The game is not going to be abandoned. Not sure why people would come to that conclusion just because releases take a while. He posts on Patreon and SS and is active on his discord. And if you bought on Steam or Itch, you're getting all future updates for free. Not really a bad deal.
