Ren'Py - Completed - Lord King [v1.6] [ArchonStudio]

Yeah no, sorry but that ending was obviously rushed and so incredibly dissapointing it genuinely ruined the rest of the game for me.


The game already had somevery low-quality assets and animations with almost no variety, and a ridiculous amount of the girls that appear have maybe 2 scenes in the whole game and some you can't even replay, but at least the general plot and the game mechanic of slaves-citizens-army were somewhat enjoyable and interesting to balance; enough to deseve maybe up to 3.5-4 stars average just for that and the potential of said plot alone.
And yet the finale wasted said potential and even ruined the few things it had going for it by giving its plot a nonsensical rushed ending to every plotline and making the entire balancing act between soldiers, citizens and slaves pointless and nearly irrelevant for the entirety of the finale.

It is clear that there is potential in both your writing and your sense of game mechanics within VNs, and I honestly did enjoy the "economic" system within the game and saw potential in the setup done in every storyline, both main and secondary. It's just a pity the actual sex scenes were underwhelming in both quality and quantity, and the lack of delivery in said storylines was the last nail in the coffin.

Once again I am sorry, but I genuinely can't give this more than 2 stars, and that's only because f95zone doesn't allow me to give it 1.5. I really wish you the best in your next project and hope you will not be forced to give it such a rushed ending.

How should I put it.
Imagine the feeling when one of the most promising series that you actively followed suddenly gives you the 5 minutes of "and then they lived happily ever after" being written on the screen and then the whole project closes down.
Thats what I feel about this game right about now.

Imagine not giving a proper ending to an otherwise all around feel good power fantasy, and instead settle down for the most uninspired and lazy sex scene in the entire game folowed by a final choice where you decide "which girl sits in a chair next to you". Then it all just ends.

If it wasnt for that, and the fact that realistically the project feels only some 60-65% finished it would have got a 5 stars on all fronts based on my previous experiences. The problem is, it doesnt feel finished, the second half of the game feels void of interactions compared to the first one, and by the looks of it - it will remain as such.

So I followed this game from the beginning.
And know it's his first game. So I rated it for a beginner def.

The good.
* The sandbox, I am usually not a big fan of it. But it really works well for this game.
* The models are decent and did not see them in other games yet.

The bad
* Story feels like it's not complete, or its like blam here it is.
* Girls, many girls have 1 sex scene no real romance/story.
* Ending feels fast(not really thought out) and no prologue.

So with all that said, I think it deserves a quick play. But more than that it's not worth it. Not going to recommend or remember this game in a year

v1.1
Far in the future in a post apocalyptic world with mutants and wasteland tech you ascend to the throne as a new king.
I am finding the game quite enjoyable, although a bit weird how MC is just fucking all the infected mutant girls and somehow not catching it himself. I can't decide if I am really supposed to just avoid them or not.

There is quite a lot of salt about a "traitor" in the harem so I think I should clear it up.


I am all for "if you have one bullet left and in front of you are an enemy and a traitor, kill the traitor instead of the enemy".

I am also gosh darn impressed at how well thought out this plot is. It really places me in a spot where not only I can't follow on that, I can not even really punish the traitor. I mean can't in the logic sense not in the railroading sense, it makes perfect logical sense. Bravo to the author.

I am also not too salty about being betrayed in such a manner since hey, I get to be king and I got to marry the princess.
10/10 would love to be betrayed this way again.

I was so hyped about this game, it was on my watch list since the early versions and it kept getting better and better though I am so sad it died at the end, the art and the content was really nice

The game looks good, although many reviews said it was a simple game, but it is not for me, at the least. Try not to cheat or mod it and who knows, you fill find a new quest till the last update. Overall an excellent game, I thank you for this experience

My review of Lord King [v1.4]

A pretty poor sandbox game.

Gameplay
The gameplay is extremely basic and grindy.
You basically just go raiding to earn money every day until hidden criteria are met to unlock events/quests.
The money is used to buy soldiers + weapons (to win fights and earn money faster) and to buy farm slaves (who produce food for your soldiers).
The events/quests advance the story and often give you new waifus for your harem.
There's zero hints how to advance the story and no warning when you've reached the end of the current content.

Story and waifus
The story is actually pretty decent and the highlight of the game (both main story and waifu stories).
But once you've acquired a new waifu for your harem you can't really do anything with her.
She just sits there all day and you can read her repeating dialogue or rewatch 1 sleep-inducing short sex scene.

Writing
The writing is pretty mediocre.
Not terrible but definitely not very good either.

Combat
Combat is pretty awful.
You just auto-win if you're stronger or auto-lose if you're not.
Attack/Skirmish/Defend make no real difference.
There's also an event where you can get ambushed by a larger number of soldiers, which is slightly more complex, but it's ultimately the same + super-risky for a tiny amount of extra gold (never worth doing).
Your best option is just selling weapons instead of fighting, which gives you infinite money with zero risk.

Graphics
Everything looks like it was made 20 years ago.
Characters/backgrounds/lighting are pretty poor even for a Honey Select game.
Sex scene appear to be short Honey Select loops with clipping.

Sound
The game almost has zero audio.
Some story events have a bit of background music, but that's about it.
It's basically a no-audio game.

I originally intended to give this game 3-4 stars since the story of v1.3 was interesting enough and there was plenty of time to improve things.
But since the latest update took months to release and contains 10 minutes of content + zero improvements I'm done.

I liked the game from the start, but the more I played the more I disliked it. I thought that the plot was good, but it was game play that got me irritated. Now when I quit I had quests that was waiting for something (or not anything more in this update). So in reality I had nothing to do but go on to do random things until one of the plots gave me permission to do something. Boring!

The characters are ok, even if I reconnaise them from other games. The sex scenes are nothing to be excited about, unfortunately. So a 3* for the start, I guess I had given less than 3 if I continued to play.

Version 1.3
From the very first bed scene, the game made me want to get all the chicks. That's the expectation laid out for me, and that's what I got. This is a fantasy story where you can be THAT dick, and you will get what you want(eventually).

[Story]- Story is somewhat linear. There are multiple questlines that intersect each other, and you have to complete certain conditions to be able to continue with the main story. Since multiple lines can be locked behind one condition, you may experience a flood of activity in rapid succession, or go through days trying to figure out what to do. For the most part, each girl has her own bundle of quests to go through, and you will get some story for each of them. The storyline is somewhat fantastical and a little chaotic, overall pretty enjoyable.

[Gameplay]- Somewhat enjoyable as a strategy game. You get to figure out the game mechanics and utilize it to build up your population and cash. If you understand how to gain these resources, the storyline will progress so rapidly that you hardly have time to work on your population. As a new player, the strategy game and storyline has a decent balance. Currently, the "raid" gameplay is not the best. Most of the scenarios are not rewarding, and there is only one scenario that pays out well, but I'm expecting that it will get expanded on in the future.

[Scenes]- The scenes are not outstanding, but the chicks look good, as do the bodies.

[Bugs/Exploits]- There's some exploit or bug that makes gaining cash a walk in the park; so much that you barely even have to put effort into it. Not sure if this is intentional, but atm, it makes the game very easy.

Its still needs a little bit of work for it to be perfect . Perhaps a combat system or a war system where you have to tactically battle , but other than that - this is one of the best post apocalyptic games on f95 ! A game where your MC is not a virgin zombie slayer , but a chad leader of men ! Of course I always enact Prima Nocta . The best way to show you rule over the peqsants is by fucking their viwes ! The inventivness of this game shines a new light on the already old Honey Select engine and sometimes makes me forgget that Im watching Honey Select at all , at least when Im in my harem viewing all my girls.

I like this type of game. Decent enough storyline. A variety of good sex scenes. Plenty of choices both on the management side and the sex side of things. Would recommend others give this a try, you know, if you are looking for a post-apocalyptic sexy harem survival kinda game.

Seriously, i see 4 star rating, and so far the sex scenes are basically default animations with almost no transition. And if there is a transition, it hap¡ens with somebody you just met and its like 2 frames before the default animations start.
The camera angles are default amateur level. The scene with the sister consists of 2 renders and default HS animation.
You are supposed to be removing her clothes and clothes just dissapear.

This is really really bad, if you are older than 15 and you have watched porn at least 2 times, idont understand how can this be "good"

The sister should be reluctant in some way to perform that stuff, but since there is not transition and she basically does the stuff, you dont see that she didnt want it, but later she tells you she didnt. Tell but not show, the mark of a bad writer.

Sorry but i can not consider this good, not even average, since what you have is the usual (average) but in lower quantity than many other similar games, and the storytelling and buildup are lacking and sex scenes are mostly boring.

Version 1.2
Finally a story that's more creative than: "you moved in with your sister and mother after your dad died", but at the same time it will not bore you with a million pages of unending text. Furthermore, the world building is great and the characters are interesting, you really feel like you are a lord in this post apocalyptical city where everyone is constantly backstabbing and plotting game of thrones style.

The strategic and management elements are pretty interesting and well done for a porn game.

Speaking of, the sex scenes are well done and each female has a lot of character buildings. I wish they were a bit longer and more elaborate. Unfortunately, there is not enough sex content in this version to satisfy me, that's why I give it 4/5 . But there is a lot of opportunity for improvement in that regard, considering this is a world of harems and sexual promiscuity, I hope the developer spends more time on this, we need more slave girls more sexual positions with each girl, groups sex scenes and so on.

I wish them the best in future development I think this game really has a lot of interesting ideas going for it.

Great Game! One of the few games that seems to really get a good balance with the sand box and VN. The building of your region is well done and easy to figure out and nicely balanced with the fun stuff. There were only a couple small things that you could nit pick about but overall just a fun well thought out game.

if you like making your harem. Play this game. Story and Characters are realy good but game is a bid gridy just use cheat if you bored.

This is a nice game with a solid story and sandbox, and has a nice array of choices. I like building up your camp, partaking in raids, bolstering your army, and taking care of your harem. The characters are all excellent and have varied personalities. The MC gets choices to be nice or not so nice. Animations are smooth and most have no shaky screen going on .

I've only ever had one peeve with this game. Nice guy animations usually involve a missionary, while not nice animations usually involve a doggy style animation. Is that a problem for me, yea because I like the doggystyle positions, but have to be a douche to get them. Missionary position does not automatically mean a nice and caring sex position, and the doggy style position does not automatically mean a dominant rough sex position.

That's my only complaint and other than that, excellent game.

The start of the game has you and your two friends heading towards a city and run into a daughter of a dead lord. Soon after you win back the lordship and become lord yourself basically. The actual execution of how this happens is actually better than you would expect, it's pretty good and mostly believable. All this is done really well, tthen you have your stats like gold and food and citizens and slaves and soldiers in looking after your territory. It's actually done well. It's all easy to get a grasp of and continue doing, though you don't nearly get enough resources of anything, unless you grinded a lot i guess.

A real gem in the rough. Completely engrossing story and a nice management feel, esp. if you play in the original Russian. Highly recommend Lord King, even though the graphics may be dated, it has a lot of soul.

- cg quality. i mean better than ~50% other games, but not better than other ~50%
NEUTRAL:
- originaly game writen in russian lang and that mean- hard to read code w/o understanding russian.
- some story present, but in that case that kind of "story" not a plus for game
CONS:
- many blabla in text about noninternatioan things like ancient russian writers etc.
- time system in this game- real madnes. using array like ["morning", "noon", "evening", "night"] and cyclicaly rotating it - its real madnes... mych more easy use simple variable like "time_of_day"...
- game complete near ~30% and version named "0.9" mean normaly ~90% (not real flaw, but its unfair trick)
- content deadend not marked.
- code work not perfect- i mean "w8 week/*7 days*/ for jerry" work like "w8 next calendar week".

not bad game in future, but in current state- only 2/5
